The current meanwhile plugin displays buddies from the
Domino directory in the Notes format (User
Surname/OU1/OU/O/C). It would be good to have the
option like in Connect to display just the common name.
In my environment this does not work. It simply removes the
CN=xxx/OU=yyy/O=bbb/C=xx types. I'd like just the CN (Joe
Bloggs) to be displayed as occurs in Connect.

hi, i also have the same problem.
i do have the option "Display remote nicknames if no alias
is set" enabled.
when someone who isn't in my buddy list chats with me, his
name is the full LDAP DN, which is pretty annoying. i have
to add him to my buddy list, then meanwhile gets his CN from
LDAP and afterwards i see his name in the chat instead of
the full DN.
Regards,
Fadi.

While "Display remote nicknames if no alias is set" might be a meanwhile option. There does not appear to be a way to select this option in the GAIM plug-in. If there is I sure can't find it.
In order to get SSO to work with Sametime, by company switched to using employee numbers for login instead of usernames, so my case is even worse. If someone not in my buddylist sends me an IM, i not only get all the ou crap, but only have an employee number which I need to lookup somewhere external to the program to figure out who is talking to me before i can figure out how I should respond.
If there is a way to change this setting and i just don't see it, I would appreciate a pointer.

OK I found the option. Turned out this was changed a bit in GAIM 2.0.0 AKA PIDGIN. This option only affects the display of nicknames in the buddy list as far as I can tell. The issue has to do with unsolicited IM chats from Sametime users not in your buddy list.

Selecting the preference "Display remote nicknames if no
alias is set" should do this.
