Attached a dirty hack to build mcu svn646 (or later maybe) against standard Ubuntu 12.04 -dev packages. I've commented out some lines because I wasn't sure what values were needed so this could lead to a not fully functional mcu binary. But it seems to work for me though I haven't tested it extensively yet.

Hi Jeremy,
From the patch, i see that you are you trying to compile against the ffmpeg devel package of ubuntu 12.04, right?
I always use latest ffmpeg svn version, because the libavcodec API changes quite often, so it is the only way of been able to support just one, the latest.
