There were some changes to the way associations work starting with win8. I'm not sure if it's related to that, but I can't seem to get MComix (any version including the latest dev3 build) to appear in the "open with" menu.

If I go to "open with" -> "choose default program", MComix is listed as an option, but not in the short list. As you can see, the other programs are listed in both.

The same happens for any format I'm trying it with. I have tried completely deleting all user associations I made with, say .7z. This works, and I can add programs to the "open with" menu without problems - except for MComix.

I guess ideally we should provide an installer for the Windows version, that register MComix for supported files, add a shortcut, etc...

Not necessarily an installer. Hamana for example comes as portable-only, but I can add it to the "open with" menu without problems. There is no source code for it though, so I have no idea what the author did to make it work. It's actually a winXP era program though, so I'm guess it uses the legacy file association.

Right, maybe Hamana set some registry keys at startup? Do you have any registry key related to Hamana?

The ones I've found so far exist for both Hamana and MComix.
I've found this MSDN page which apparently explains what you have to do to correctly register the application and the filetypes it supports.

Added metadata to the executable generated by pyinstaller - this should hopefully be fixed in the next release.
