I cannot reproduce this error.
I'm using r8330 on Linux.

I guess the error does not occur when you use a normal subplot?

Just in case, replace axes_grid with axes_grid1 and see if it makes
any difference, i.e.,

from mpl_toolkits.axes_grid1.parasite_axes import SubplotHost
