Hi Mars Simulation Project Team and Users, I'm Andreas Hornig from AerospaceResearch.net/constellation and a Mars enthusiast. I just found your project and it's fascinating me. I would like to offer you computing capacity on our Constellation Platform and become a sub-project. Perhaps you can use approx. 3000 host PCs for your research. Just feel free and contact me any time! Best regards, Andreas Hornig -- AerospaceResearch.net/Constellation Dipl.-Ing. (FH) Andreas Hornig König-Karl-Straße 27 70372 Stuttgart / Germany Email: constellation<http://www.google.com/recaptcha/mailhide/d?k=017mbjG6nfLMCLrDa2Qny3jA==&c=_JqyPpXo-lPlPffT8bMwoBRaeLzSlwzKmTCNHH51Pks5PCXv6VG5tQqVNj88aCh6> (-at-)aerospaceresearch.net Constellation - Introduction Constellation is a platform for different aerospace related projects that need intensive computational power. The platform supports the efforts of participating projects by providing Distributed Computation capability using BOINC <http://boinc.berkeley.edu/>(Berkeley Open Interface for Network Computing). Constellation will send work-units of attached projects to volunteering, idle PCs where the units are processed. The combined power of all volunteering users will help to solve important scientific tasks in fields from astronomy to aerospace-engineering beginning from student up to university projects. The bottom line is to benefit from the generosity of the volunteers and to benefit from the accumulation of different projects, like sharing programming knowledge in distributed computing and influencing the others' simulation by its own solutions. The platform is an open space for anyone, who is an air and space enthusiast and wants to donate idle computing time or even skill for a sub-project on platform. *Applications for sub-project are welcome! *More information: http://aerospaceresearch.net/constellation/aboutconstellation.php Science Poster: http://scr.bi/ehXpem* * |

Hi Ben I'd love to help, but I don't know much about the Mars 500 experiment, apart from what I've read on ESA's web pages and Mars-related news sources. When they do publish a final report, it'd be interesting to see if we can incorporate some of the findings into the social aspects of the simulation, however. I'm happy to announce that Version 3.00 of the Mars Simulation Project has been released. http://mars-sim.sf.net Version 3.00 includes: A new simulation configuration dialog that allows you to configure settlements when creating a new simulation. A settlement map tool that displays a 2D overhead view of settlements that can be zoomed, rotated and dragged. SVG images of buildings are used to allow for smooth zooming. The Mars globe in the Mars navigator tool is now mouse draggable. The simulation time system has been improved with better time pulse/real time synchronization. Lots of bug fixes and performance improvements. Version 3.00 is the first in a new development series where we're planning to add more user interactivity to the simulation. Hi Jake, I'm sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you. I'm still trying to get caught up on my emails after the holidays. I'm sorry you're having troubles getting the Mars Simulation Project to run. It should work if you untar the tarball in a directory, go to the "mars-sim" subdirectory, then type the following command in the terminal: java -jar mars-sim-main-2.90.jar I'm wondering if you didn't type the "-jar" argument when you received your error. I get the same error when I don't include "-jar" in the command. Hope this helps. If not, please let me know and perhaps we can troubleshoot it further. Version 2.90 of the Mars Simulation Project has been released. 2.90 adds salvaging of equipment, vehicles and buildings to the simulation. Settlers can now both build and tear down buildings to rearrange their settlements how they choose. 2.90 also has a new Nimbus look & feel based on Lars Christensen's work. This requires a Java 6 update 10 or newer virtual machine to run the application. Thanks to Christian Domsch for his help in generating and deploying this release. We also have a Java webstart release that can be run by going to this URL: http://mars-sim.sourceforge.net/webstart/mars-sim.jnlp Download and enjoy, Scott Davis Mars Simulation Project http://mars-sim.sourceforge.net sc...@us... |

Hi, could you be so kind and add also ant build.xml to your project sources ? background: I packaged this program for openSuSE: http://packman.links2linux.de/package/MarsProject We build all packages in a chroot (no download possibilities) and even worse the SuSE distribution has actually no maven packages :( So the only possibilty to provide packages in the future, is to build the package based on ant. It would be sufficient if you simply call mvn ant:ant and provide those generated *.xml files too. -- have fun Toni |

Hi Jody, Thanks for your feedback and I'm sorry you're having trouble running the application. I tried downloading a new copy of the zip file, extracting it, and running the executable jar on a Windows XP box similar to the specs you listed. It ran without problems, although a bit slowly. I'm wonder if you could try running it from the command line with the following command: java -cp MarsProject.jar org.mars_sim.msp.MarsProject This should directly run the simulation (although without memory or logging parameters). It should display any runtime errors to help diagnose the problem. It's possible that the file you downloaded was corrupted in some way. Please let us know what errors are displayed from the command line. Hopefully we can get the app working on your system soon. Hello, I have followed this sim project for a while now, and have had no issues running earlier versions up to 2.86. I downloaded 2.87 tonight (12/8/2009). I cannot get it to run the sim. The executable will start java with no problem, but it will not run the actual sim. Task manager will show java and in the apps window will show the sim itself for 2.86, but only shows java running for 2.87, I've tried the double click, the command line, and using the "run" command. I'm running a WinXP Home, SP2 machine with just less than 1G of memory, and a 1.5G processor, with Java 1.6.17, so my machine should not be an issue. 2.86 runs just fine on this machine, if a tad slow at times. I wanted to make this known, in case there's something someone missed, or others have the same problem. Hopefully this is of some help. |

The nomination phase ends on May 29th, after which the top 10 projects in each category will be voted on to receive the awards. The awards will be presented at OSCON 2009 in San Jose. If you enjoy the Mars Simulation Project, please nominate it for one or more category. I don't know if we have much of a chance of winning an award this year given the huge popularity of some of the other Source Forge projects, but it would certainly be nice to receive some nominations. Here is a link to the nomination web page: http://sourceforge.net/community/cca09/nominate/?project_name=Mars Simulation Project&project_url=http://mars-sim.sourceforge.net/ I've also included the link icon on the Mars Simulation Project web site: http://mars-sim.sourceforge.net Thank you, Scott Davis Mars Simulation Project http://mars-sim.sourceforge.net sc...@us... |

Hi Howard, I saw the press release about your new demo on the Mars Society's web site not long ago and was very impressed with the screen shots. I posted an email about it on our project's developer mailing list. I wish you and your team the best of luck with your game when it's released. It looks like it will be a lot of fun. Sam, Sorry for the confusion. The Mars Simulation Project requires a Java runtime installed on your computer. If you don't have that, you can download it for free from Sun: http://java.com/en/download/index.jsp When you have that installed, you should be able to just double-click on the MarsProject.jar file in the project's directory. Please let me know if that doesn't work. Take care, Scott Davis Mars Simulation Project http://mars-sim.sf.net sc...@us... I am not technologically saavy to start things off. I downloaded the .zip file and extracted it and then I don't know what to do from there to get this to work. Please offer some insight as I am interested in using this I just can't figure out how. Thank You. Sam M. |
