Since installing Jamulus, it has been nothing but a headache for me, for the past 2 weeks and well over 45 hours spent troubleshooting the problems.
My main problem is that I cannot connect to a specific server, no matter what I try, whether public or directly with IP. When the server is made public, I cannot see it on the list, no matter what genre it is filtered to, nor what name is used, nor if I filter for said names. Direct connections lead inevitably to "trying to connect", to no avail.
I'm running jamulus on Windows 10 Home with a more than powerful enough internet connection and CPU speeds.
The troubleshooting I have tried so far:
.. Set up a server via port-forwarding and the normal. Only one person was ever able to connect to me when I made the server public, and has not had the same success since. No one has been able to connect to me privately.
.. Port-forwarding both enabled on disabled on the router. Including with ranges, and attempts with port triggering.
.. Port sniffing using online/offline port trackers to monitor UDP traffic through the port. Only successful exchanges of UDP traffic were the one public connection and me connecting to another person privately.
.. An IT friend of mine helped me troubleshoot for about 7 hours, and at one point we had a direct hole punched through everything between us (disabled firewalls, port forwarding on both ends; except the ISP firewalls), and were not successful, though he was able to ping me.
.. Reinstalling Jamulus through a number of these steps, with no sign of change.
My only successful Jamulus tests were one person connecting to my public server once, and never again on subsequent tries; and walking another person through setting up a server and being able to connect to them, though only if the server was public (have not attempted this since). I have not had success in private connection since the beginning of my Jamulus usage.
I'm thoroughly at a loss. My IT friend said that most likely, Jamulus's traffic is being blocked at my ISP (Spectrum Wireless, borrowing Verizon data lines; Spectrum is a subsidy of Charter Communications). My only issue is that I can see and connect to a number of servers on the public server list just fine, though I'm not entirely sure of the workings of that, and I specifically need to connect to one server in particular, of which I cannot.
If anyone can help, I would appreciate it greatly. And preferably keep it on the public side of this thread in case someone runs into this problem down the line.
Edit History:
Odd formatting in initial post, and using a hyphon to list initiates a header interface. Added periods to keep list structure at cost of legibility.

Can you run your public server and post details so we can test some connections to it? - e.g. server name, IP, port, central server it's registered under..

Likely your IT friend is right. Connecting from a client to a server is normally possible, setting a public server is often possible, setting a private server at home is more difficult.
A similar thread is here with a lot of considerations: https://sourceforge.net/p/llcon/discussion/server/thread/82a9ee3180/
By the way, a server at home is not necessarily the best thing for bandmates with a different ISP, no matter how powerful is your internet connection (because it depends on how ISPs are interconnected).

To narrow down the field of investigation, have you tried tethering your PC to a mobile data connection so see if that same thing happens on that network? If not, then it's likely your ISP. If you get the same problem, it's likely something on your network.

If it's your ISP then read this:
