Mike I am clarinet outside of Boston.Looking for Jamulus people.I also have done lots of chamber music/experienced.
    ddsepi@yahoo.com
I set up a few weeks ago but need another/other.
Someone more experienced with Jamulus told a lot about getting started in there. I do know whoever is in there better expect a little time initially doing a little experimentation as to setting it up. But as long as one goes into it understanding it is kind of fun. Then, after that it is easier to just “play”.
    Let me know.
    I just saw message.

Hi Leigh - I'd be willing to give it a try. Maybe later today?

    Thanks - Mike

I would love to, but the lag between us would be terrible. I’ve been
playing with someone who’s only a few miles from me, and when the lag is
over 50 ms (I think because of other Internet traffic), it’s painful. It’s
hard to stay together and hard to get back if you get off. Not fun.

That said, how about connecting to a server midway between??? Would that
    work?

Hi All - I'm a 'cellist and violist near New York (experienced chamber
player). Just set up Jamulus and would like to play with one or more
classical musicians (violin, viola, bassoon, 'cello, etc.). Familiar with
chamber music rep, IMSLP, etc. Anyone up for giving it a try, let me know.

Hi Punshon - Thanks, yes, I think it wold be very helpful to have a video chat to go through Jamulus setup. I'm in touch with other chamber musicians (mostly in the US) and am certain there would be interest. Agree with Jane about discussing the add-ons (sound card & mic); also configuring ASIO.

Ok I will aim to do a video chat session this weekend. I'll make a post on the General forum about it too.

I will coordinate this by email so that I can organize a time and send out the URL of the video chat. Therefore if you are interested in attending, please send me a private message here on the forum, with the following information:

      1 - your email address
      2 - your time zone

Any classical violinist or pianist interested in trying out a Jamulus session with a cello player? We're located in Georgia.

I might know some in FL.How would they best contact you?
However, me a clarinet, and a violist did ok. Me near Boston, MA them in Jacksonville, FL.  There was a third out of Kalamazoo,MI that stopped in.
You really have to look at the availability of servers and speeds when one signs on. It does have something to do with distance, but you might find a server at midpoint, used loosely, between the two. For example we used one out of SC.
So, me not the expert, but except for a general idea of how well it MIGHT work based on distance; it might be different from what one finds at time one actually logs in. Anyway, that has been my experience.
Also experimenting with buffer may or may not help.
It is good to think of the reduced latency as part of a chain. To get best you need the strongest links you can get.
That would be your high speed internet service. Your Ethernet.
Latency of sound reaching digital environment (mics, interfaces, etc.) Those with electronic instruments at an advantage (electric violin, etc) An electronic keyboard should work better than traditional piano.
Distance is part of it. Number on there, although I heard a nice bluegrass band with members scattered about doing a nice job.

I am clarinet, not who you are looking. But I may know people in FL but I would need a better contact than through site to forward to them.

Email would be easier as it is hard to follow on here. And some players might not be interested in signing onto a forum.

To facilitate more the Classical playing/jamming I set up a small server (maximum 5 players) on my VPS: ClassicChamberMusic. In the chat window I added a link to this forum to make it easier for people to meet and play. Whether you want to play a Haydn string quartet or improvise medieval counterpoint in conductus style :-) Any form of Jamming is allowed. My info: I am a conductor by profession and reasonable pianist and singer., using Jamulus with some choirs now, both international and regular choirs. The server is in the Classical/Folk/Choir list (for versions 3.5.4 and up), located in Amsterdam.
