Mike I am clarinet outside of Boston.Looking for Jamulus people.I also have done lots of chamber music/experienced.
ddsepi@yahoo.com
I set up a few weeks ago but need another/other.
Someone more experienced with Jamulus told a lot about getting started in there. I do know whoever is in there better expect a little time initially doing a little experimentation as to setting it up. But as long as one goes into it understanding it is kind of fun. Then, after that it is easier to just “play”.
Let me know.
I just saw message.

That said, how about connecting to a server midway between??? Would that
work?

I am thinking of doing a 30-40 minute open video chat to take technical questions and to help musicians learn how to get Jamulus running, and what steps they can take to reduce problems like lag and bad audio.
If you think something like that would be helpful, please propose a time and date, and if there is enough interest I will schedule a session.
If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
I think it would. But need to include the add ones maybe necessary to include/buy carefully explained as well as the various adjustments that may have to be made in Jamulus settings and ASIO AND a persons usb mic or audio interface. That last part is the “confusing” part to a lot of them.

Hi Punshon - Thanks, yes, I think it wold be very helpful to have a video chat to go through Jamulus setup. I'm in touch with other chamber musicians (mostly in the US) and am certain there would be interest. Agree with Jane about discussing the add-ons (sound card & mic); also configuring ASIO.

Ok I will aim to do a video chat session this weekend. I'll make a post on the General forum about it too.

I might know some in FL.How would they best contact you?
However, me a clarinet, and a violist did ok. Me near Boston, MA them in Jacksonville, FL. There was a third out of Kalamazoo,MI that stopped in.
You really have to look at the availability of servers and speeds when one signs on. It does have something to do with distance, but you might find a server at midpoint, used loosely, between the two. For example we used one out of SC.
So, me not the expert, but except for a general idea of how well it MIGHT work based on distance; it might be different from what one finds at time one actually logs in. Anyway, that has been my experience.
Also experimenting with buffer may or may not help.
It is good to think of the reduced latency as part of a chain. To get best you need the strongest links you can get.
That would be your high speed internet service. Your Ethernet.
Latency of sound reaching digital environment (mics, interfaces, etc.) Those with electronic instruments at an advantage (electric violin, etc) An electronic keyboard should work better than traditional piano.
Distance is part of it. Number on there, although I heard a nice bluegrass band with members scattered about doing a nice job.

Violinist. I can try for a brief while this evening or on Thursday morning.
Thanks for the responses. I can be reached via direct messager in the forum or I can provide an email address if needed.
Email would be easier as it is hard to follow on here. And some players might not be interested in signing onto a forum.
