Recently I upgraded to Ubuntu 14.10. With that, the xf86-input-wacom package has been updated from version 0.23.0-0ubuntu2 to 0.25.0-0ubuntu1.
After the update the file /lib/udev/rules.d/69-xserver-xorg-input-wacom.rules has been replaced by /lib/udev/rules.d/69-wacom.rules/wacom.rules, and the devices have stopped working and vanished completely.
As workaround I've swapped back to the old file. This action braught back proper functionality.
Could you please share with me you rules file? I've just made a fresh install of Linuxmint 17.1 and my Intuos Pen was not recognized. Thanks!
See here: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1392887 at comment #2 for the file. How noticed above, it is from version 0.23.0-0ubuntu2, and it contains changes for Ubuntu 14.04. So it might not fit for non Ubuntu systems.
Just try it.
Seems it doesn't interfere with the new rules folder for systemd. I was too lazy to delete it ;-)
The workaround on launchpat.net from littelion did not work for me.
The Idea from littlelion worked. I just replaced with the X61-File.

Now it works on my lenovo X41.
Thanks littlelion

I have not read carefully: I have first replaced the new file by the old one, instead of replacing the whole folder by the single mentioned file.
So my answer on askubuntu.com should be identical to littlelions comment #2 in the original launchpad.net article: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xf86-input-wacom/+bug/1392887
see this post for the solution:
