Hi everybody! I am new here, since I haven't find anything more relating to my question than this forum, I decided to post here. Can anyone explain or give me a link where I can find an answer to the question how to make 2 monitors work in text mode? It is plenty links and documents about xinerama. In graphical mode it is not a problem to make a dualhead videoacard or a two separate videocards to work together. The question is - how to make them work together in text mode. Or to run one in text mode and other in graphics mode under X. More interesting to me situation with dualheaded cards like Radeon or Matrox. 1 card is refered as one device for example, PCI:1:5:0, and it unclear to me how to work with the second head of the same card. With ruby+linux 2.6.8.1 I get 3D, both on the matrox G550 AGP and the radeon 9200SE PCI, simultaneously if need be. The radeon isn't entirely stable, but that is a radeon driver problem, not a ruby problem. (It is just as bad if I boot plain linux and use only one xserver.) To do this, you need two video cards, and 3D support for both. Then you run one xserver on each card - X supports 3D just fine. All you need is cards with good 3D support _and_ who don't mind to be used along with another card. Some cards wants to be the only one, unfortunately. Helge Hafting |

Hi multi-user users! Last September Svetljo answered a query by Yitzhak, saying that the IsolateDevice option is in the server from X.org. However, searching the manpages for Release 6.8.2 I cannot find that option. Am I looking wrong? Is anybody using an unpatched X.org server with that option? Thanks! > Comes ruby patch sometime into mainstream kernel? Because there is alot more to do. I really like to see ruby up to par with what we had around the 2.4.12 series. Unfortunely we have falling behind with merging those changes into main stream ruby. Especially with the input api merger and the on going fbdev fixes and new api. Once that is done we have to address. 1) Finer grain locking. Right now we have the big console lock. 2) Be able to have printk run without ttyX. 3) Get ride of con_switch. There a few others things as well. |

I have been running ruby successfully for a while. Today I tried to get the machine going in 64-bit mode, it is an opteron after all. The kernel is 2.6.10-ruby and seems to work fine. I installed debian testing (pure64) and copied the X config files from the working 32-bit installation. Unfortunately, I get only one X server up now. The other one needs int10 initialization, and that seems to fail. Here is the end of the log: (II) RADEON(0): Using 8 bits per RGB (8 bit DAC) (II) Loading sub module "int10" (II) LoadModule: "int10" (II) Reloading /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/linux/libint10.a (II) RADEON(0): initializing int10 (**) RADEON(0): Option "InitPrimary" "on" (II) Truncating PCI BIOS Length to 53248 *** If unresolved symbols were reported above, they might not *** be the reason for the server aborting. Fatal server error: Caught signal 11. Server aborting Is there any special tricks to get int10 working on amd64? I have installed the ia32-libs package, so that 32-bit software works. Helge Hafting |

Hi, Aivil! Linux-2.6.11-mm1 is released, I updated your ruby-2.6.11-rc4-mm1-4.diff.bz2 for that. There were only small trivial rejects in vt.c, vt_ioctl.c and vt_kern.h. I made a test compilation for fbcon+radeonfb. It compiled without warnings for me except these: drivers/video/console/fbcon.c: In function `fbcon_switch': drivers/video/console/fbcon.c:1926: warning: unused variable `ops' drivers/video/console/fbcon.c:1885: warning: 'prev_console' might be=20 used uninitialized in this function drivers/video/console/fbcon.c: At top level: drivers/video/console/fbcon.c:374: warning: 'search_for_mapped_con'=20 defined but not used Looking at the code, the one about "prev_console" might be harmful. Does it work at all, or fbcon_switch isn't used? Also, did you create 'search_for_mapped_con'? It's not used anywhere. (Yet?) I haven't booted with it yet, the patch against 2.6.11-mm1 is attached. Don't you think that we should aim for inclusion into 2.6.11-mm2? Seriously, the patch is not intrusive and small enough, so we may not have to split it up. Andrew Morton may accept it as-is, although he (and others) definitely will have some comments. Best regards, Zolt=E1n B=F6sz=F6rm=E9nyi |

http://members.westnet.com.au/vanzeeland > common guys, > couldn't you patch it yourself? Just suggesting this is what I'd like to be trying out. Realtime preemption produced more rejects than I had time for last attempt. I am hoping this ruby-2.6.11-rc4-mm1-3 patch will prove less reject-full than previous attempts to get it happenning. I will be trying to - if I post it it's working. If I don't it isn't. Patching 2.6.10 with similar capabilities to the 2.6.9 series has also been troublesome. Latest test kernel (not posted to homepage) compiled fine, booted, but locked on entering init. Hence the relatively mundane but stable vz2 kernel is as far as I've taken it. Now that 2.6.11 is here, maybe this will be better, http://kerneltrap.org/node/4785 but it will likely be longer before .11 matches the complete patchset, so .10 may yet get another patch from me. I am happy to learn C better, but time is not always permitting. |

Sysop must add kernel commandline "dumbcon=3D1:3" - one dummy console with 3 VCs in pool After fbdev modules loading in to kernel fbcon is loadable too. On fbcon start 1st fbdev /dev/fb0 will take over VGA console and use vc:1-16. Console on 2nd fbdev will pop up when # con2fb /dev/fb1 17 will be performed. After this command fb1 take over dummy console with according count of VCs. Additional mingetty must already run. Cross maped fbdev is supported via dummy console anyway. Allowed commands initialize fb1 # con2fb /dev/fb1 17 map fb1 to vc:8 # con2fb /dev/fb1 8 this alghoritm is not polished. To minimize workload seems i will drop original ruby source and provide -mm related source. linux-ruby stay vanilla compatible with additional 3-5 patch set. Aivils |
