Hi, Anybody ever tried suspend2? I tried it (AGP TNT2, PCI MX-440) but after resuming never could start X again either with nv, or nvidia. Its homepage: http://www.suspend2.net/HOWTO Hugo __________________________________ Yahoo! Mail - PC Magazine Editors' Choice 2005 http://mail.yahoo.com |

I never used mknod before and after 1 hour of searching I couldn't find documentation on what I needed to run exactly. I scanned the man page of mknod, searched google, read the doctument about multiple X, and the only thing I could find on this mailing list about it was the "mknod /dev/ftty0 c 13 96" in the 0.04 release notes. Where is this information that I missed? Anyhow, did it like you said above and now it picks up the other keyboards. Sorry for my ignorance in this area and I appreciate the help, keep up the good work! Now to get a dual core Ath64, dual PCIe 16x, raid SATA, and dual 1gig sticks of ram some day... Really funny. We don't know what causes the vertical mouse problem. It only occurs when working with faketty, but after performing: service hotplug restart everything works OK. Yitzhak |

We have installed ftty 0.4, so far with two consoles. We often have a strange problem: the mouse on the second console, tty51, only moves up and down. There is no horizontal movement. Rebooting the computer usually solves the problem. Hi, We found a solution for the problem here. We do not start any getty at "inittab" and instead have only the command: 1:2345:once:setterm -blank 0 -powerdown 0 In that way we avoid the kernel to turn off the video cards and can use all X on faketty. Works fine here. Daniel Daniel Weingaertner escreveu: > Hy folks, > > I'm using faketty on four-head machines and it works fine. I am using kernel 2.6.13 and trying to get faketty-0.04 to work. I managed to make the ftty devices, (mknod /dev/ftty[0-9] c 13 96) and /dev/ftty0 picks up only one of the keyboards, but /dev/ftty[1-9] don't pick up any other keyboard. I figured this out using 'cat /dev/ftty[1-9]'. Other than that I managed to get a second X up with a second mouse, but no keyboard input. One thing that confuses me is 'cat /proc/bus/input/devices' returns back the keyboards/mice and shows that some of the keyboards are handled by ftty[1-9] (e.g: H: Handlers=kbd event2 ftty1) I have hooked up 4 keyboards (1 PS/2, 3 USB) and 3 mice trying to get this to work. Any idea what could be wrong? Thanks |

Hi Gareth, Have you experienced any locking problems with your NVidia cards? We=20 have tried using GeForce cards and after a while we got some black=20 screens and had to restart the X on that card (usually the third or=20 fourth). Sometimes restarting X wouldn't work and we had to reboot. We=20 managed to reproduce the error by running xscreensaver on all four=20 heads. Hy folks, I'm using faketty on four-head machines and it works fine. But I have to=20 start the first X on vt07, else the kernel will cut the VGA signal of=20 all video cards because it thinks no one is using them. Hi, First of all I am very pleased with the ruby patch! My girlfriend can look anime with freevo (well, she is Japanese) while I am playing around on my Debian box. Great! There is one thing I didn't get to work yet. I configured gdm in such a way that the first X server is started on my CRT and the second on my TV. Now I want to automatically login for the second X server (no keyboard). Unfortunately, options in gdm only allow this for the first X server. Automatically login for both X servers would also be fine for me. Does anybody have a solution? Maybe get rid of gdm totally and start X from a startup script? Any suggestions? Thanks alot! Andrej |

Sound devices can be assoiated with environment variable. gmd (desktop manager at least) is a parent of X servers. gmd creates unique environment variable for each X server. That variable is DISPLAY=":0" in my case. Any userspace program, which are started from this process tree can check out variable DISPLAY. Getting involved: # export # ps -AH foxy programs can replace /dev/dps0 symbolic links in runtime according environment variable DISPLAY. The main xfree multi user howto has a > useful piece on this - which I'd forgotten about. X1wrap exists into faketty package. You must edit that X1wrap file. You must enter right keyboard physicaly location: PHYS=isa0060.serio0.input0 - means location of PS/2 1st keyboard. In abstract any fttyXX file can handle any keyboard. X1wrap can determine which ftty handle necessary keyboard device. X1wrap check out /proc/bus/input/devices and creates symbolic link to ftty device. Then X1wrap start X server with proper vtXX option. device physicaly location is unique. Take a look into /proc/bus/input/devices That file contain information about ftty too. Hello to everyone, For quite a while now, I have been trying to get an ATI Radeon 7000 Dual headed to work with XFree86 4.3.0. What I'd like to do is the following: A) Put more than one card in the system (3 in fact... 2 PCI and 1 AGP) Have each head of the cards to work independently Example: Card #1 --> head #1 = /dev/fb0, head #2 = /dev/fb1 Card #2 --> head #1 = /dev/fb2, head #2 = /dev/fb3 Card #3 --> head #1 = /dev/fb4, head #2 = /dev/fb5 Is this possible with radeon or NVidia Card? I know it is with Matrox G400 & G450 B) Have multiple X server to run independently and simultaneously on each cards head (I was able to do this with 6 cards with PCI address method ex: 1:0:0 but not with frame buffer on dual head) So far, FrameBuffer is working on only one card, and one head... really basic. My questions. 1) Is this the correct place to ask this question? If not what are other resources or website. 2) If you know how to achieve my task in section A, help me please... What I have found so far on radeonfb is VERY old documentation (2002)... I need more recent stuff. Thanks to everyone... Claude Ferron cferron <at> gmail.com |

Hi, Yesterday I finally managed to get a working four seat Linux implementation, using faketty0.4 on top of a patched Fedora 4 distribution. I'm very pleased. The details: Software: Fedora4 2.6.13-vz3.1 (james van zeeland's patch) Fedora core 4 distribution Faketty0.4 Latest nvidia binary drivers compiled for the above kernel Hardware: MSI KT6 Delta mainboard AMD XP2800 1 nvidia mx4000 agp 3 nvidia mx4000 pci USB devices: 2 microsoft multimedia keyboards 1 cherry multimedia keyboard with hub 1 hp multimedia jeyboard with hub 4 logitech mice Screens 4 x iiyama prolite e380s I've been working on this on and off for 6 months. I need to thank michael pardee from groovix for all his initial help, and James for his more recent help with this - and of course alvis! I've sent some stuff to James for inclusion in his howto - and I'll write something up as well on th eprocess I went through to get to the current implementation. Briefly, it involved Groovix (michaels debian implementation), ubuntu (which hung as soon as I tried to log in), and now the current set of software. The hardest part does seem to be determining which usb devices are attahced to where - I used lsusb for this. The main xfree multi user howto has a useful piece on this - which I'd forgotten about. I want to change the way in which my usb devices are plugged into the system - I'm dreading this as it took so long to get it right - hopefull this will be easier the second time around. A good multi posrt usb 2.0 hub is needed so I can get some of the keyboards and mice away from the main tower. I'm planning to use this as a series of kiosk type screens for my photogrphy business, where I need lots of people to be able to browse, so the next step is a kiosk browser and locking down the desktop - I may try to adapt boothbox or just modify the firefox uxl. Hope you find this interesting. regards gareth jones sports-alive e: in...@sp... w: www.sports-alive.com |

Hi,All! Current X server uses TTY mostly to get character on keyboard key press. I was decide to merge evdev.c, keyboard.c, vt_ioctl.c and create simple handler, which is capable send character from keyboard to X server. Input layer allow us register unlimited count of handlers. All these handlers recieve events from input device drivers and send output to device files or kernel subsytems. faketty register new input handler named ftty and send characters from keyboard to device files /dev/input/fttyXX. fttyXX device files is created for X server. All unnecessary features are deleted: No VT switch, No text mode, No terminal-io or VT ioctl's. ftty ioctl's will work for keyboard rate and beeper. Files /dev/input/fttyXX will be created for each keyboard or speaker device. On fttyXX open keyboard disconnected from normal text console and send keypress events to fttyXX opener application only. So each keyboard is separate now. faketty is designed for peoples which will run multiple X servers, each for another user, at same time on one linux box. You can cheat X very simple: modprobe faketty rm -f /dev/tty50 ln -s /dev/input/ftty0 /dev/tty50 startx -- vt50 Now X uses keyboard via ftty. If multiple keyboards are pluged in, just choose right fttyXX file. Take a look into /proc/bus/input/devices. http://www.ltn.lv/~aivils/files/faketty-0.04.tar.bz2 Of course You can reach same result if X server does not touch /dev/ttyXX at all, but uses his own evdev drivers. Current X allways uses TTY. Aivils Stoss |

Hi, All! faketty 0.04 - ftty device node minor base is 96 - faketty now creates /dev/fttyXX devices for keyboards and speakers only Minor base was same as for touch screen (128) , for now is free cipher. mknod /dev/ftty0 c 13 96 If redundant devices files fttyXX does not distrub You, then upgrade is not necessary.
