Hi, I have been running 2.4.2* with radeonfb on my Radeon Mobility 9000 on an Acer TravelMate 800LCi without a problem. But after switching to 2.6 the framebuffer no longer works. * The driver in vanilla 2.6 gives me distorted output. * The driver from Ben's tree (penguinppc rsync) gives me distorted output too. * James latest fbdev.diff gives no output at all. (Only the backlight stays on) Here is part of the syslog after inserting the module (patched with fbdev.diff). modprobe radeonfb: Jan 6 10:43:21 localhost kernel: radeonfb_pci_register BEGIN Jan 6 10:43:21 localhost kernel: radeonfb: probed DDR SGRAM 65536k videoram Jan 6 10:43:21 localhost kernel: radeonfb: Invalid ROM signature 0 should be 0xaa55 Jan 6 10:43:21 localhost kernel: radeonfb: Used default PLL infos Jan 6 10:43:21 localhost kernel: radeonfb: Reference=27.00 MHz (RefDiv=67) Memory=166.00 Mhz, System=166.00 MHz Jan 6 10:43:21 localhost kernel: Starting monitor auto detection... There's two options, both of which I have successfully used in 2.6.0.test11: a) Use the fbdev driver in X, using the same resolution as your framebuffer. Note this is driver "fbdev", not the UseFB option. b) Grab Petr Vandrovec's patchset at ftp://platan.vc.cvut.cz/pub/linux/matrox-latest/. It was made against test7, but applies cleanly to test11. With this, you can use the standard mga acceleration, so longas resolutions are equal. -- nick black <da...@re...> "np: nondeterministic polynomial-time the class of dashed hopes and idle dreams." - the complexity zoo |

Where can I find documentation (tutorial/HOWTOs ect) on the "new" API (for linux 2.6)? Is it backwards compatible with the old (2.4) API? Can I run XFree-FBdev on a "new API" (2.6) fbdev driver? /Daniel |

Hi. What's the status of rivafb in the test9? Is it moved over completely to the new API, and does it support any hw acceleration? Will XFree-FBdev be accelerated if run on it, and if so, will that support the xv extension? /Daniel |

(I am not subscribed to the list, so please CC your replies to me.) Hello, Recently I've been giving the 2.6.0-test kernels a try. With all of them I've encountered screen corruption problems with matroxfb on my G400. Let me explain: Right now I have 2.6.0-test4 compiled (I've also used -test1-ac1, -test2 and -test3), and of course I've compiled in support for matroxfb. In particular, I have the following framebuffer related options enabled: CONFIG_FB=y CONFIG_FB_MATROX=y CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G450=y CONFIG_FB_MATROX_G100=y In addition, matrofb gets initialised by the following boot parametre: video=matroxfb:pixclock:10582,xres:1024,right:48,hslen:96,left:208,\ yres:768,lower:1,vslen:3,upper:36,sync:0,depth:8 So at boot-time I get a nice 128x48 character (1024x768 pixel) display. By the way, when matroxfb first initialises, there is a white-filled area on top, that soon disappears because of scrolling. But this is purely cosmetic; it would be nice if it wasn't there, but it doesn't concern me. But I digress. If I don't start X, everything is working just fine. But once I've started it (XFree86 4.3.0), if I switch back to the VCs I start getting screen corruption. It occurs when some area of the screen is cleared or scrolled down, and it manifests in the form of semi-random pixels (they seem to originate from existing or previous characters) being drawn all over the screen. The problem persists even after X has been shut down. Well, that's all. I'm willing to try out experimental patches, and generally help in any way I can to have the problems I'm seeing fixed. Thanks in advance, Vasilis P.S. There's another set of display problems I'm experiencing with 2.4's matroxfb and XFree86 on my G400 (and I know I'm not the only one). These are much more obscure, but if anyone is interested in dealing with them, I can post a description for starters. -- Vasilis Vasaitis vv...@ha... +306976604701 |

Can confirm that this happens with stock 2.6.0-test4 as well. The console becomes correct if you switch away and back to it. I also have Radeon hardware (R300). -- arvind |

I'm working on a new driver for 2.6 that include my 2.4 updates, a slightly reworked version of Kronos and Jon i2c DDC code and some more source cleanup (split the driver in separate files actually). It's not finished yet though. I'm not yet sure I'll add support for dual head in the first version neither, all of this pretty much depends on how much time I'll be able to dedicate to it during the upcoming week. Ben. |

Hello, so I've enthusiastically tried to boot up 2.6.0-test4 even outside of UML, however I've been hit hard by radeonfb - there're not even slighest signs of it working. Regardless on the video mode I choose on the command line, setting the mode fails and I end up with the display showing the BIOS POST screen (that one with energy star logo in corner, BIOS blabbering smt about disks and so on) covered with odd-coloured vertical lines. At the top of the screen is something like the classic textmode stains (red dots grouped to lines; reminded me of the days of turbopascal ;) and in the top few lines white points which actually moved around and changed as stuff was been virtually printed onto the screen. So it looks like the driver got the video RAM coordinates a bit wrong and it writes stuff into a wrong place - or it forgot to move the frame to point to where it should (or whatever, I can't say I understand the video stuff newer than 1996 a lot ;). I have ATI Radeon 7000 w/ 64M RAM and TV output (unused). The driver announces itself as: Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb_pci_register BEGIN Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb: ref_clk=2700, ref_div=12, xclk=14300 from BIOS Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb: probed SDR SGRAM 65536k videoram Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeon_get_moninfo: bios 4 scratch = 2000002 Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb: ATI Radeon VE QY SDR SGRAM 64 MB Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb: DVI port no monitor connected Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb: CRT port CRT monitor connected Aug 30 23:49:45 machine kernel: radeonfb_pci_register END If you need any further additional info, please let me know. It appears that the 2.6 driver is essentially the old one, without Ben's patch (which fixed framebuffer for me on 2.4). Is there a version of this updated driver for 2.6 as well? Is there any reason why it is not integrated yet? Thanks in advance, -- Petr "Pasky" Baudis . Hello, when using VESA fb on 2.6.0-test4-mm4, some areas of the screen, in particular those which have background set but space on that spot (or other blank character), the area is drawn with thin vertical lines of other color over them (bluespace is shown as magenta with thin cyan lines over it, redspace is shown as darkgreen with darkred lines over it). Ie. in menuconfig, the blue background shows such an effect, as well as the active item highlight in mutt mails list. It does not happen everytime, though, only in some cases. I'm running my kernel with (relevant parameters): video=radeonfb:off video=vga16fb:off vga=0x318 video=vesa:ywrap, mtrr Vesafb is announcing itself as: vesafb: framebuffer at 0xe0000000, mapped to 0xc8800000, size 16384k vesafb: mode is 1024x768x24, linelength=3072, pages=27 vesafb: protected mode interface info at c000:5342 vesafb: scrolling: redraw vesafb: directcolor: size=0:8:8:8, shift=0:16:8:0 fb0: VESA VGA frame buffer device Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 128x48 and fbset thinks: mode "1024x768-76" # D: 78.653 MHz, H: 59.949 kHz, V: 75.694 Hz geometry 1024 768 1024 768 24 timings 12714 128 32 16 4 128 4 rgba 8/16,8/8,8/0,0/0 endmode I'm running this on ATI Radeon 7000 (with 64M RAM). If this goes in lilo.conf, it will have to use the append keyword. drivers/video/modedb.c has a commented list of available modes. It claims the 1024x768@85 mode has a 70.24 KHz hsync, so use at your own risk. -- Chad Daelhousen My opinions are my own, until UB purchases my soul. |

Hello! Sorry for disturbing u people. My basic driver for 69030 is working in 24 bpp true color mode. I wanted to program the advanced hardware in the card such as, Hotswapping, Accessing frame buffer memory into pages, Graphics accelerator and multimedia engine.I also wanted to have a frame rate of 15 frs per sec to play MPEG 4 video. Can u please guide me how can I proceed in this regard. Is there any reference code or study material on this to get some Idea. Are there any driver available for this ,may be for different controller. regards, =20 Nitin Mahajan Socrates Software India Pvt Ltd... mail:ni...@so... Ph:51101667. Hi! I don't know if this list is the correct one, feel free to correct me... I have a Voodoo3 running with TV out on a PAL TV (no other monitor available...) Since this TV only can use PAL@50Hz but all framebuffer modelines (fbset and the kernels modedb) only support 60Hz I've written my own modelines for use with it (added below). I'd appreciate it greatly if somebody could test if they work for him, too. It would also be nice if I knew where to submit patches, didn't find this info on the 'net... thinkpad 560e(yes, it's an old 150mmx laptop) works great with apm and all its features but with the tridentfb on, suspend, standby and shutdown, hang the machine. on the contrary, imaging and video playing work just fine. For truecolor you indeed don't need a colormap. But for directcolor you do. Suppose you have a pixel p = (r, g, b). In truecolor mode, the R, G, B outputs will be: R = r G = g B = b In directcolor mode, the R, G, B outputs will be: R = clut.red[r] G = clut.green[g] B = clut.blue[b] > On Sat, 7 Jun 2003, Nitin Mahajan wrote: > > The colors are definitely in RGB format. > > Actually Iam getting the fb_fix_screeeninfo.visul as > > FB_VISUAL_DIRECTCOLOR.
