Hello! As 1280x1024 is not 4:3 and 1600x1200 is not usuable with my screen, I like to use a resolution like 1400x1050. This was no problem with rivafb, but radeonfb (on a Radeon 9100) displays crap with all 1400x1050 modes from modedb.c. A user defined 1400x1050 resolution under Windows works, but if I convert the timings and add it in the modedb I get the same unusable display: There is a narrow stripe, starting in the upper left corner, which goes diagonal to the right border and start on the same height on the left border again. It is impossible to read anything, but it is stable and colors are ok. I can sand a screenshot, if needed. -- CU Lars Noschinski |

Hi, I've a S3 Trio64V card and I would be very happy to use the framebuffer. Are there some patches for Kernel 2.4.18 or more information about your development status? thanks Andreas |

Hello. I recently switched to a much newer card. An ATI Radeon 7000. Apparently I cant choose video modes when the kernel starts up. Ususally with the old card 'ati rage 128' adding to grub: video=aty128fb:1600x1200-16@60 was sufficient. Now with the Radeon card: ' video=radeonfb:1600x1200-16@60 ' I see the penguin logo, but the text looks like 640x480. Really big. Compiled the kernel, like I normally do, tho this time I did not compile the atyfb kernel module. Just the radeonfb and the usual font settings. This framebuffer resolution 1600x1200 worked like a charm with the Rage128 card. I also tried using 'fbset' to set the resolution. I've tried different resolutions and everytime, it's about to switch it,monitors Turns black. The screen goes pitch black, and a few seconds later the monitor goes into DPMS (appears to be energy saving mode) Grub settings I so far have tried: vga=791 append="video=radeonfb:mode1024x768,cmode:16" video=radeonfb:1600x1200-16@60 vga=5 None of them work. I contacted the GATOS mailing list and no one knew about it either. Im using XFree 4.3 from sources with ati.2 and drm-kernel from cvs. Compiled on kernel-2.4.20 Any insight to this would really be appreciated. A.C |

When I try to use the tdfxfb framebuffer module with the 2.5.64 kernel, I get the following message: fb: Can't remap 3Dfx Voodoo5 register area. Is there any way to solve this? I tried google, but I can't find any solution for this :-( If I compile the tdfxfb framebuffer into the kernel, I get an oops during booting with the backlog below. That is rather less nice, but even as a module it won't work. Hi all, we have just finished writing a patch + a HOWTO for configuring a multi-seat XFree solution under Linux with framebuffers. If any of you at this group would like to test it and give us comments, we would appreciate that very much. The HOWTO can be found at http://www.itsopen.net/projects/x-hack/ Have a nice weekend. Call the fb_set_var ioctl with the FB_ACTIVATE_TEST bit set in test_var->activate. If it returns an error one of your settings is wrong. If it returns without an error, check if test_var and the var returned by the ioctl call still matches. Ie, if the returned var cleared the FB_VSYNC_INTERLACED bit, then the driver does not support interlaced mode. Note: the ioctl will rarely return an error because drivers can round off values in your test_var to ones acceptable by the driver. Also, you have to recheck _all_ fields in test_var. Once you get a var that is acceptable and do a set_var again (this time using FB_ACTIVATE_NOW flag), get fb_fix_screeninfo again, because "fix" can change. Yes, this is a lot of work for user applications and more or less you have to do some (a lot of!) trial and error. Tony |

How can I detect the capabilities of a FrameBuffer driver and video board ? I have an application which generates at runtime the required modelines. For this pourpuse I need to know exactly which capabilities are available in the underline FrameBuffer software/hardware. For example, I have a GeForge 2 board without hardware INTERLACE support. But I haven't found a way to detect this misfeature from user level using the FrameBuffer API. The same apply for DOUBLESCAN modes, at present the Nvidia driver does not support them, but the driver is not reporting this misfeature in any way. Essentially I need a API call to probe the capabilities of the active Frame Buffer hardware/driver. -- Andrea Mazzoleni 935A 2D3C 5C70 BCD6 CB0C ED89 7C19 4321 6340 3F6D |
