Hi, After putting the testing distribution on my system everything was knackered, very slugish, couldn't get a desktop etc. I then decided to start again with LinuxPPC2000 cdrom, got nowhere as i couldn't start gnome so i decided to start again this morning with debian off the AA cdrom. I booted up with the ramdisk image supplied, installed the base system. Rebooted and attempted to install the packages from the dist/potato folder on the AA cdrom, this is where i was driven insane (yert again!!). I select the right path on the cdrom but it insisted the files were not there, so i checked and they were! So i then copied them to my linux partition ina dir called /debian. That went OK except for the symbolic link errors when copying the binary-powerpc folder, but this is what happened last time i installed it. I then specified the path for /debian folder, and again it insisted the files were not there and you guessed it they were! This is what i did b4 and it went on OK. Why the hell is dselect now refusing ? When it lists what packages to be installed & how much space is needed, it states it needs to get 0B/xxMB. Then after i say yes to continue i get all the "file not found" errors. But the files are there, i have checked!! If only i had not installed the testing distribution from ftp.uk.debiab.org/debian But i was told to upgrade XFree from v3 to v4, as v3 was a little outdated. I was hoping to quickly install a basic setup b4 going to work, i started at 10.30am and i am not very far on! At work till 10pm so no more linux today!
