New kernel image on > sourceforge or do I need to recompile the kernel myself? great news - can you give me your new dmesg output (dont need to reboot etc, shoudl be able to run 'dmesg' command under Linux and dump the outout to an AFFS partition and then email the info to me when you next enter AmigaOS world - as you dont have networking under APUS) regarding Ethernet PCMCI (APNE driver) I'm aware of some new issue with this - could you try the most recent (date string) 2.4.13 kernel and the 2.4.17 kernel. we're looking/working on the APNE - unfortunately, as is often the case, I dont have such a card anymore - having sold it last year :-| alan |

hi, > Here is my dmesg from 2.4.20 kernel (as Alan Buxey asked for it at > sourceforge). This kernel doesn't work for me. I use 2.4.9. right, lets start by making sure you use the right bootstrap commands. --keep-video nobats noscsi ^^^^^^^^^^^^ no. why do you have this? this was an old kludge for the CyberVision3D card. you dont need this. 60nsRAM no, this isnt correct either. as you can see with the line below APUS: BATs=0, BUS=60MHz, RAM=70ns, PCI bridge=1 this shows it still at 70ns the command you want is 60nsram all in lower case. as for the kernel itself - looks like serious ooops at the PCMCIA code - do you *have* a PCMCIA ethernet card? If so, could you please remove it and see how the kernel boots. if it gets to you being able ot log in, then we can pinpoint this issue by the way, do you want better IO speeds, better sound and dont need AGA? if so, add video=amifb:off to your command line Alan |

hi, I'm sorry that i havent written here for a while... but i have been keeping in touch with whats being asked, firstly, thankyou for the breakdown of issues with certain kernels. I have witnessed some of these behaviours myself and am keen to engage in further information with respect to issues. I'd really like everyone to love forwards to the most stable and recent of kernels. but this either has to be identified, or compiled. there are other things to be seen to etc, and i'm hoping to get things back on schedule here... having moved, changed jobs etc I havent been able to clear older things. on a better note, however, I now have a MediatorSX PCI board for my A1200. dont get too excited just yet - i have yet to get into devel discussions with Elbox, but i propose the resulting code will either be precompiled module, or built into the kernel. I will hopefully be joining in discussions with our other developers to get this board working and usable under APUS as soon as i can. thanks for the offers of paying for one of us to get a board....i was asking for such actions way back last year...but time eventually caught up with me and i have bought one myself. one other reason for me to get this working is that i'm back onto AGA under APUS in the meantime!! ;-) Alan |

Hi, As nobody answers my silly questions I started to install Debian over the net (again as yesterday it crashed and PCMCIA eth card stopped working). System is installed now but with very few packets :(. The first question: is it possible to install PINE in Debian?? If I use 'apt-get install pine' I get message saying that apropriate package cannot be found due to some... circumstances. Another problem is that my PPC card is probably broken. During install I got few messages like that: Oops: kernel access of bad area, sig: 11 NP: (...) MSR: (..) DAR: (...) TASK= (...) 'sed' last syyscall: 3 Instead of task 'sed' it's sometimes 'grep'. I use 2.4.9 kernel (any newer doesn't work on my config). The question is - buggy kernel or hardware failure of memory, CPU etc.?? Third thing is gpm - I installed it and configured properly (when I use test form 'gpmconfig' mouse works fine but after finishing 'gpmconfig' script and restarting gpm server I can't use mouse). I noticed that gpm gets a lot of CPU (I checked with 'top') but mouse does't work. Hi, I try to use the glint driver for the permedia2, but it does'nt work and = i don't know what to do. Each time i use startx, the screen becomes black,i hear a sound and i return to the console. But when i compile the kernel without the CONFIG_FB_PM2_FIFO_DISCONNECT set to Yes, the keyboard stop working after the sound and i have to do a reset. I know it is old, but IMHO it's last usable APUS kernel. The rest is unstable and really buggy. Regards Krystian |

Hi. I still have problems going off the net with Debian3.0. When I try pon provider, nothing happens. I did this with the 2.4.18 kernel. I also tried an earlier kernel(2.4.17 or something?) and KPPP could sense that I had a modem connected (with the 2.4.18 the whole system crashes...) But once again, when I tried pon provider nothing happens, so I assume that PON is buggy in Debian3.0. Is there some other program I can use? Btw. I have tried the 2.4.20 kernel and this kernel won't even boot on my system. (Amiga4000 with CyberstormPPC) -- Bj=F6rn Johansson "Debian rocks!!" |

Maybe you should better post that on -apus-devel, but I guess that everyo= ne is reading both lists anyway. So, why don't you have a go at it yourself. I am sure you will learn a lot about the linux kernel itself. There are some g= ood documents out there, or you may also consider buying a book, for instance "understanding the linux kernel" (o'reilly) though it is based on kernel version 2.2 (at least the one I have, maybe theres a new one outthere already). There has also been a book about writing linux device drivers, = AFAIK also o'reilly. --=20 Best wishes, Andi |

What says the X error log "/var/log/XFree86.0.log" (please attach it), which kernel version do you use (I guess 2.2.10 or 2.4.20 which do not have pci support compiled in), and what does the XF86Config in question look like (especially the "Device" section). But in general, glint would be the driver to use if you want hardware acceleration (which is, I guess, the one you are using, since you seem to have given a PCI bus ID). -- Best wishes, Andi |
