Hello,
I am trying to boot using vmapus-2.4.4 and XFree86-v4.1.0-7, on an A1200 with
BlizzardPPc 603e 240mhz/060-50 and Bvision gfx card.
All appears to go well and KDM loads then the screen goes black, but after
that no desktop, and the monitor switches off and everything hangs.
I have included below the dmesg output and the XF86Config file, I have no idea
what I need to do next, although I have successfully run XFree v4* before,
ant suggestions are welcome.

Hello,
I try today to compile the new 2.4.12 ... with no success,
the compiler (gcc 2.95.4 loaded by apt-get upgrade the 15/10/2001)
seems to have a bug.
The kernel compilation aborts whiti the first piece of code.
The module "sched.c" gives errors on some instructions with a message :
"Error: missing operand"
After looking at the assembly code generated by the compiler,
the errors are given by the assembler pass for 2 opcodes :
dcbtst 0,9
----------
and
dcbt 0,0
--------
Is it a brand new bug or a known one ?
Some ideas ?
Best regards
--
PS :
I did compile the previous kernel (2.4.9) the 14/10/2001 and all was OK.

I'd say /etc and /home (or any personal data, but that should really be in /home), maybe /dev, /usr/local and /opt . Everything else should be reproducible. On a Debian system, you can get a list of the packages you have installed with dpkg --get-selections > selections If you ever have to reinstall, dpkg --set-selections < selections; apt-get dselect-upgrade > I am getting fed up trying to remember what I did everytime I have to > do that. The point is you shouldn't have to reinstall normally. ;) --=20 Earthling Michel D=E4nzer (MrCooper)/ Debian GNU/Linux (powerpc) developer XFree86 and DRI project member / CS student, Free Software enthusiast |

Hello, I now have a problem that dselect only uses the Package files for the 1st of the 3 Debian 2.2r2 cd's that I have used for ages. That means that I cant install any s/w that is on the other 2 (except when using dpkg). Although the sources.list STILL has the names of the 3 cd's in it. I even replaced the current one with a backup copy that I had made, but still no joy. Obvious question, what do I have to do now, to remedy this please? I seem to be digging myself into a hole again ;-o Still working on the ppp connection problems. Hello, I would like to know what are the most important dirs/files to backup in case of having to re-install? I am getting fed up trying to remember what I did everytime I have to do that. Hi Andreas , On 15-Oct-01, you wrote: > Are you looking explicitly for a .tar file, can't you deal with rpm's (uuhm, > I'm assuming you aren't using debian, with which updating wouldn't be a that > big problem)? I use Debian but was looking for a .tar file as I havn't worked out how to use the 'local file:' option in the apt-sources'list. > If you can handle rpm's, go to rpmfind.net -> index by name -> > p -> get a coffe (or get a fast connection, 1.4MB text to download) -> > scroll down the list to ppp-2.4.0-2 (the newest precompiled ppc version I > could find) -> scroll to the rigth and off we go! > When dealing with dependencies problems, also review the "Still can't > install PPP.2.4.0.2" thread by Daniel Rangel (hi Daniel, now running > debian?) on this list (beginning of september). I have had a look at that thread but didnt see the answer there. I have that deb file but was hoping to find a *.tar.gz file as I cant remember how to adapt my sources list to use a local file. I assume I have to mirror the directory tree structure of the dists on the HD that I use for transfering the files, but am not sure what I need to add in the way of contents file or whatever is needed to get apt to recognise the files. I have been ill and just cant work out how I set it up before, I'm sure I just installed a more up to date binary package, then after connecting to the net did an upgrade that way. I realy want to get KDE 2.* installed again and that would need a net connection unless I could compile my own with the source of 2.2 that is on a recent cd from the Linux Format magazine. But until I understand what I am doing again, no chance of that ;-) Regards -- John Man invented language to satisfy his deep need to complain. -- Lily Tomlin mail: ch...@la... http://www.lordofchaos.co.uk ICQ 110130385 Nick = Chaos A1200 BlizzardPPC 240mhz 060/50 BlizzardVision OS3.9 Supporting Magnum Opus - http://www.magnumopus.co.uk |
