Thanks again. It did work, although one of the sf mirrors gave a invalid zip archive, another mirror could extract and running it on my sch's jvm 1.4 works. I like the new icons too, however, my first impressions when i tired it at my home yesterday was there are still serveral bugs in the features. Bert, do you think my focus would be to fix bugs or to concentrate on new features? for new features, im now still thinking about the keybindings issue, and also about docking windows. Im thinking that should should have a customised docking panel which allows components to be dock in a way the users wants to see it. another thing, does note interator works wif chords for now? i seems to get errors when there's < > inside the string. Oops, sorry. I forgot to clean before build, so some classes remained compiled for 1.5. I've just uploaded it again, would you please check if it is fixed? Thanks, Bert |

Thanks for the release Bert. However it didnt load with java 1.4 again. Loading popups a Plugin Error, asking to update to the latest version of the plugin again. (see attachement) followed by a beanshell error. java.lang.UnsupportedClassVersionError: lilytool/parser/LilySideKickParser (Unsupported major.minor version 49.0) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass0(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at java.lang.ClassLoader.defineClass(Unknown Source) at org.gjt.sp.jedit.JARClassLoader._loadClass(JARClassLoader.java:325) at org.gjt.sp.jedit.JARClassLoader.loadClass(JARClassLoader.java:76) I'll install 1.5 JRE and see what happens. Lately I have some strange encounters using lilypond within lilytool for larger piece of music(simple pieces doesnt seems to have any problems) . When there's errors(or sometimes no), the console doesnt seems to display any errors. eg. lilypond /cygdrive/C/home/bbc5/score.ly GNU LilyPond 2.4.2 Processing `/cygdrive/C/home/bbc5/score.ly' Parsing... Interpreting music... [8][16][24][32][40][48][56][64][72][80][88][96][104][112][120][128][136] LilyPond ready. No output is generated. However, if I run lilypond by doubleclicking on the file, output pdf is generated (the log file has 68lines), though it takes some while. Maybe I will have to try it with the next lilytool release as it might not have any of this problem anymore. Joshua |

Hi, here's a late christmas but early new year's gift. I have a very basic note previewer integrated in the lilytool in the cvs. here's whats the cans and cants. CANs + You can place your caret at any note in a block of relative notes and note will be displayed the dockable note visualiser + This visualiser can use alot of cpu processing and slow down the system. + This currently has only the VIEW mode running. - It cant work with more complex syntax (eg. with functions). - It cant stop trying to look for the note in any file. - It cant display articulations, rests, dynamics. - It cant display a string of notes SHOULD * implement proper data strutures and * do some intelligent codings that do minimum processing and use caching so updates are quicker. So much for this present. seems like it can do so little and so much more work to be done. Have fun trying it out though Joshua |

Installing Java 5.0 (aka 1.5) should solve the problem. I've accidentally compiled 0.2.6-1 for JDK 5.0. Next version will be compatible with 1.4 Bert |

Hi, I tried installing the latest lilytool but get an error message when I= start up Jedit4.2Final. It looks like there are some compatability problems with other plugins. Please find a dump of the error. (Note: I have updated all my plugins to= the latest version including Sidekick, so I am not sure what the problem= could be.) If there is an easy fix please let me know. Regards, Ben P.S: Lilytool looks really promising. Keep up the good work! I think I finally got LilyTool to work with spaces in Windows. (only directories can have spaces, spaces in lilypond files are not allowed by lilypond) Since bashslashes are converted to fowardslashes, and spaces are escaped in the toUnix method, ConsoleProcess no longer needs to escaped back slashes again. I'm now working on the keyboard "quick insert mode". Trying to dock the window so the keybindings can receive focus and notes can be inserted in the textarea :) Joshua. Oh btw come to think of it, the only features in LilyTool I have not figured how to use is the lyrics and hyphening. I didnt really understand the help page on Lyrics tool. |

Hi all, The note visualiser now allows note viewing and entre at its very initial stage. Some question on my mind. Qn1. How would you imagine the user to enter the notes? for the note visuliser to detect if user is entering notes or editing notes, I have make the visualiser move into a "insert mode" from the "viewing mode" by double clicking. I have tried with 2 ways. type 1, you double click and the note is set ( you can hold down the 2nd click and drag it around to position the note). type 2, after double clicking, the note is at the mouse and you have to click it a second time to confirm position of the note. which way would you prefer? test out the note visualiser from the cvs. Qn2. How to get into the edit mode ? I would imagine that the user clicks(maybe with or without releasing) on the notehead in the visualiser and drags it around. The current way I implemented the note visualiser is by drawing the string of lilypont fonts on screen. What I have not figured out is how to detect what string is below the user's mouse click. I guess its something simliar in jdvi for point and click but somehow it doest because i didnt store the coordinates of where the note is drawn. Another problem I'm facing is that I just upgraded to Ecplise 3.0.1 and somehow I couldnt find out how to run the junit test. any ideas? Joshua |

Hi, unfortunately, I did not do anything with the fonts, so I can't help you there... (At least not for another month; my PhD is shaping up nicely, but I still have to work quite a lot for it). Ciao, Dscho |

Hi "lily4jeditors", This was something I enountered yesterday that left me wondering for sometime. There are three character in the lilypond font that will be required to display a single semiquaver note - the notehead, the stem, and the tail. Now i guess ideally what needs to be done is to place them in a string, as in quarter_notehead, stem up, tail for stem up. The problem that I encountered is that the notehead is in the center of the verticle alignment which is correct but the tail for stem up is in the bottom half of verticle aligment. The tail for stem down in should to be in the bottom half, yet it is in the upper half of the verticle alignment. So I was wonder if this was a mistake during the design of the fonts or there is a reason why I have not thought about. I wonder if this is a reason why there is a stem-attachment-function (procedure) note-head-style->attachment-coordinates A function that calculates where a stem attaches to the note head? This is a fallback when this information is not specified in the font. The function takes a grob and axis argument, and returns a (x . y) pair, specifying location in terms of note head bounding box. under the lilypond internals. So to go around this problem, I thought of 2 methods. 1) draw the note head. then if its going to be a stem up, draw the stem which is in the upper half alignment. now calculate the coordinates up and left to the notehead and draw the tail over there. 2) draw the notehead. the we place the stem in the lower half with the stem up tail (which also is in the bottom half) in a string. then we draw this stem and tail string in the adjusted coordinates. for both, the adjusted coordinates is determined by the height of the font and width of the character. I chose to go for method 2. How are your understanding and views on this? Joshua |

Hi I live in Singapore, sort of a tropical area near the equator. Tempature about 30 degress daily, and on "colder" days over 20 degress although I get plenty of rain. Thanks for all the comments and encouragement, and enthusiasm is making me glad. Thanks for the pointers on fonts, I'm now trying on it :) There's another font at http://www.ibiblio.org/pub/gnu/ftp/savannah/files/xml2ly/GNU-LilyPond-feta-20.ttf mscore20.ttf has more characters though. I guess we will have to standardize on 1 font if not the characters mapping would be inconsistant. And I guess soon fonts can be a replacement for the pngs icons can be replaced. Hi. I'm sorry I havent been concentrating any specific feature so I'm afraid I'm not yet ready with a perfect feature. ( Another harddisk of mine crashed (again), so I have been spending past few nights ago trying to recovery my data. Perphaps its the hot and hummit weather here. Thankfully, my lilypondtool development is not affected by this hdd) To sum up the features I played with, 1. midiplayer 2. keyboard 3. file import 4. notetranslater 5. note visualiser 1. The midiplayer has tempo control, track mute/solo options, slider, time display, and a bar&beat estimation. For this feature, i would say its 80% done. More features and tweaks can still be added, eg. vol control, pitch control, an option to view the estimation, and follow score and maybe link up the notes to the keyboard display, open other midi files and lastly to clean up the coding. 2. keyboard ui has around 50% completed. I really have not visualise on where to position the keyboard and all the controls at the same time view the editor for the notes. keyboard feature would utimatly a part of the lilypond input method. This would require keyboard bindings and integration with part 4 and and part 5. 3. File importing is about 80% too for the basic features... since the support for lilypond conversion is limited, I did not want to spend some much time having gui for the command options. simple conversion should work. i guess i would find the midi2ly and xml2ly functions the best. However, i think more testings need to be done. errors i have not come across might happen to others. the jfilechooser ought to be replaced by the vfs browser too. the usage of running xml2ly in lilytool also should be improved. 4. I guess absoluteToRelative notes in NoteTranslater class is working fairly. what needs to be improved is the beanshell macro for calling the method (something like addArticulation). relativeToAbsolute should work too although I have not given it enough tests to prove itself. resolvetranslatedNotes is there too, but what I need to add is the insertRelativeNote and modify a relative note. since all these methods due with a selection of text, is there an abstract way to code such that we dun have to code individual macros for each method? 5. I latest feature I working on is the noteVisualiser. This is at the a very early stage. I not to use niffty because i couldnt understand how to use it. for now i use my own drawing methods and i think its really ugly. please tell me where coding in jdvi could be used is possible. as i thought b4, using images of lilypond output is 1 way. Fonts could be another too, but I have not look into it. pointers? for now the notevisualiser can position a note with relation to what clef and to place a "shadow" note where the mouse pointer is. the note visualiser is the jcomponent and i have prepared 3 usage for it. 1. as an the input method, user sees and click the note to enter the pitch or also checking the note he entered thru the quick insert way or clicking the piano. 2. When the cursor is at any note, the relative note will be turned to its absolute pitch, displaying it, making it very easy to see octaves errors without waiting for lilypond output. at this same time, bar and beat count could be shown for that note. 3. to edit the note, user can drag the note to the desired pitch. not sure if im answering to bert's question, but please tell me if im doing anything wrong or something... im starting to get tired and dizzy so im not so sure what im typing now... ya.. just give me a feedback if something should be working and its not.... gotta go sleep now Oh btw, there's a screenshot section in the sf page. I created a development shot of lilytool, would u like me to send to you? Hello, Joshua, could you enumerate that what feature you are working on at what percent of production state is now? Which of them could be included in the next (this week) release 0.2.7? Bert |

Good idea. Next time, from VER_0_2_8, I'll use your suggestion. Bert |

Hello, I would like to make a new - relatively stable - release of LilyPond, calling it 0.2.7 I'd like to publish it to jEdit plugin central. I've created a branch for this purpose. Joshua's work can go into the the HEAD, but I will remove experimental features from 0.2.7 That's why there is a new, Stable branch now. For I have never used CVS Branching before, I suppose that the name is not good :-) Please ensure me, that it should have been called "Lily4jedit_0_2_7". Thanks :-) Bert |

I compiled with jdk 1.5, but I didn't think that this would cause problems, because I don't use any 1.5 constructs. So I'll compile it with 1.4 Bert |

I believe I have them all. I actually installed jedit 4.2 final into my pre13 folder.. sorry if it had confused you.... But I thinking the problem might actually be that it requires the latest version of LilyJHelp. But somehow the versions in the class files dont match? or a higher jvm is needed? i'm using 1.4 Joshua ======= At 2004-12-07, 19:16:38 you wrote: ======= >LilyPondTool requires > >jEdit 4.2 final - jedit 04.02.99.00 - you have pre13 >ErrorListPlugin 1.3.2 >SideKickPlugin 0.3.1 >TemplatesPlugin 3.3.0 >ConsolePlugin 3.7.1 >JakartaCommonsPlugin 0.4.3 > >Bert > > |
