Hi all, Just wanted to update you all on some progress with Bringer. Kenneth gave me admin status and I was able to put up a new site based on MediaWiki. It has some of daemonicsoul's really nice artwork on it. Please register and edit it to keep the site updated. I've decided to implement the combat system next. Not sure how I am going to make it exactly, but I will try to incorporate fireflymantis' ideas (now on the Development page on the wiki under Combat). It would be nice if we could find an artist to make some 3d models of the monsters daemonicsoul sketched to fight against. If the combat system works out well, we can maybe release a tech demo featuring an arena filled with monsters. I'm really looking forward to this. PK discussed the possibility of dividing the game into scenes with more or less fixed cameras. Sueastside wanted to have outdoor areas have free cameras (again, the wiki has more info). If you are around, stop by #bringer to hang out and hopefully get some work done on the game :) Regards, Seth (aka iceeey) |

Hi, I've been very inactive, the reason being that i've had a bunch of new developments and upsets,( My grandmother died, I left my day job and i've started full time on my business ). So i have been totally unable to dedicate any time to the project. However, things seem to be getting on track and i hope to be of some use in the coming weeks. WalkTest has a console, you can access it by pressing <tab> So this implementation would as difficult as copy paste :) CS provides a lot of functionality next to the 3d rendering, so it's also possible to print error messages to the console (text console, not ingame) by using the csReport. I'm not sure in how far this is just what Ozan is about to implement. If you want the error messages in the ingame console, I suggest to implement a custom iReporterListener and or look at the already implemented ingame consoles in CS (fancycon and such). - PK |

Hi guys Sorry for jumping in. :) I think this question is good indication of the need in clear functional specification answering exactly this sort of questions. Sorry that I just don't have the resources to really help, but I'm watching the project, and hope it'll have some progress. Regarding the question: I think such console can be nice addition. Developers, as well as power gamers would be able to change things like screen resolution, depth of view, etc.. during the game. At the least it can be helpful for debugging when in full screen for example. As to how hard it is to implement that's another story, it may need investigation. It could happen that there is already written code implementing console somewhere, so it could be used. I'll try to look for it. If I find anything I'll post here. Hi Team, We have just gone though a very quite period. So i like to see who is still ative on this project and what you are currently working on. I myself have been busy writing a function specifacation, which i hope will help all developers gain a better picture of what we are trying to do for this project and what direction we want to travel in. This document will be a collection of discussion we have had in the the past, plus the vote on the gameplay and other aspects. I will hopefully have a preview of this document by mid december, as i had to go though several drafts. As i want the thought process and what i want for the game to come though clearly. Plus what all members wanted to include. This preview will allow further comment by all members. So feel free to comment on any aspect. As i want this document to be clear, so that any new members will be able to read though this document and be brought up to speed on what we are doing, plus what we want to do. i have a idea about error output. we should have two kind of error; non-fatal error with priority degrees (to log file to console and to user with dialog) fatal error to tell the user what was wrong with dialog or consolo or both i think i can write a foncion like printf with priority options and error kind. (first i have to learn something about protypes) what do you think ? -- Ozan |

I like the evil guys. They seem to be quite singleminded in their purpose;) The warriors and civilians look a bit dissarrayed imo. It's probably because atm there are so few drawn but they look very different style wise. Hi all, It is good to release early, and the sooner we get a release out, the sooner we will show that we are not a dead project but in fact a very active one. The code is progressing nicely. We've got walking/running around, jumping, even saving and loading. But the player is trapped in a boring stone room! We need some art to make it interesting for a first release. We need a character model and nice-looking world to walk around in. The first release will demonstrate the basic features of the game. It will be like celtest (the CEL test app) with a nice GUI and art. The framework will be there for the next release which will include combat and all that is necessary for it, like stats and inventory/equipment management (more on the next release later). Things to do before the first release: 1) (Art) Model the starting world 2) (Art) Model a player character 3) (Code) Eliminate Python dependency 4) (Code) Eliminate Cal3d dependency - pending b2cs gets usable skeletal genmesh exporter Regards, Seth |
