Guys, I have been writing firmware and PC end stubs for a USB-based development board. It has come to my attention that there may be a problem with the firmware that I have written. I receive the following error message upon calling usb_bulk_read: Bulk Read Vendor Request failed (-12). usb_submit_async: error: Not enough storage is available to process this command Should I take this on face value, or is there something deeper going on here? How should I modify my firmware in lieu of this fact? I would be grateful if someone could shed some light on this situation. Thank you, Gavin Brewer. |

I'm not sure if this is the correct place to ask this or not, but how do I detect when a usb device is plugged in? I've successfully created an .inf file to bind my device to the libusb-win32 driver. I also have an application that uses the libusb dll to interact with my device. I'm planning on turning that application into a service, but I need to execute some code whenever a device is plugged in. How can I detect when someone plugs in one of my devices? Or is there a better way to organize this? -Joseph |

The Filter driver not work here (Vista 32Bit), I get always an error "C:\Program Files\LibUSB-Win32\bin\libusb0.dll This file is not design to work with windows or contain an error" (translated text) Or are they any special thing that I must do when I install it in Vista? What I’m working on right now is a new version of the DLL that will use Vista's built-in winusb.sys driver instead of libusb's own kernel driver. Most of the features are already working. The problem with winusb.sys is that it's not possible to use it as a filter driver. So libusb 'filter driver mode' might not be supported in the future any more. I hope I can manage to release a beta version within the next weeks. When I try do install the snapshot file from http://sourceforge.net/project/showfiles.php?group_id=78138 i get only an error message about libusb0.dll, what should I do now? Must this DLL resist in system32 or what would happen when I move this file to the application folder from the applicatin which use it? I hope you have any solution how to install the filter driver in Vista 32 bit. regards Peter -- Newsreader: http://mesnews.net/index-gb.php Deutsche Hilfedatei: http://www.lastwebpage.de/download/mesnews-de.zip |

Download the DDK from Microsoft's web site and take a look
at the 'usbview' example. This may be what you are looking
for.

Thank You for response. No, I didn't know that I need it :( I think, th=
at it is too complex for me - to install a special driver - for my simp=
le application. I only want to detect all connected USB devices... (Do =
I need a special drivers for all devices??? )... Is there any other way=
to reach this - detecting connected USB devices under Windows? Maybe w=
ithout libusb-win32? Does anyone know?
Wolek.

Hi all,
I have a small program to show list of connected usb devices. It works fine under Linux, but when I port it into libusb-win32, it doesn't - it doesn't detect any device! And I really don't know why :(
Attached example - testlibusb.c doesn't detect any device too.
I'm using WinXP, libusb-win32-snapshot-20060827.
Here is my code:
#include <stdio.h>
#include "usb.h"
int print_device(struct usb_device *dev)
{
usb_dev_handle *udev;
int ret, i;
printf("dev:%i\n", dev);
udev = usb_open(dev);
printf("udev:%i", udev);
printf("#%x - %x\n", dev->descriptor.idVendor, dev->descriptor.idProduct);
for (i = 0; i < dev->num_children; i++)
print_device(dev->children[i]);
return 0;
}
int main(int argc, char *argv[])
{
struct usb_bus *bus;
usb_init();
usb_set_debug(0);
usb_find_busses();
usb_find_devices();
for (bus = usb_get_busses(); bus; bus = bus->next) {
struct usb_device *dev;
printf("bus:%i\n", bus);
printf("bus->devices:%i\n", bus->devices);
for (dev = bus->devices; dev; dev = dev->next) {
print_device(dev);
}
}
return 0;
}
output:
bus:4846846
bus->devices:0
Can anyone help me, please... ? I've installed libusb0.dll into program's directory and then into system32, but it still doesn't work. Thanx in advance.

You need to recompile your kernel (enable debugfs and build usbmon as module). I do not think it is as mature as the USB sniffers under Windows. There are some documentations about usbmon. http://people.redhat.com/zaitcev/linux/index.html >From Linux 2.19.1 Documentations/usb/usbmon.txt: ******************************* * Introduction The name "usbmon" in lowercase refers to a facility in kernel which is used to collect traces of I/O on the USB bus. This function is analogous to a packet socket used by network monitoring tools such as tcpdump(1) or Ethereal. Similarly, it is expected that a tool such as usbdump or USBMon (with uppercase letters) is used to examine raw traces produced by usbmon. The usbmon reports requests made by peripheral-specific drivers to Host Controller Drivers (HCD). So, if HCD is buggy, the traces reported by usbmon may not correspond to bus transactions precisely. This is the same situation as with tcpdump. ... * Raw binary format and API TBD ********************************* |

Libusb does not take over the USB stack. Libusb's kernel driver is just a normal device driver, nothing special.=20 Switching between different drivers is usually done through the device man= ager: * open the device manager * right-click in your device and select "update driver" * a new window will open, select "No, not this time" * select "Install from a list of specific location (Advanced)" * select "Don't search. Libusb has completely taken over my USB driver stack. I cannot run my USB device with the manufacturers driver. Everytime I install the device, I am prompted for the path for the libusb.dll, even after pointing the driver update dialogue to the original usb drive. How do I get libusb off of my syrm? |

Have a look at this project: http://inf.ntb.ch/infoportal/help/topic/ch.ntb.infoportal/projects.html It's tested on Linux and Windows, but should work on every OS. I've got an Java application that desperately needs USB functionality. There are no Java USB objects that I am aware of. A libusb type object in Java would be ideal. Has anyone used swig to generate a java object from libusb ? I don't have access to a Windows development system. I develop under Linux. If I generated Java objects for libusb under Linux and got it to work, would someone run swig and a C compiler under Windows for me ? Thanks. |
