I have an installation of hoary and can try it out this weekend. Probably you need at least packages build-essential (to be able to compile anything), libusb (netmd depends on it) and libusb-dev (header files needed for compiling).
I foresee a little problem getting the libusb permissions right (for the files in /proc/bus/usb). We have a hotplug script for that, but I'm not completely sure if it is compatible with ubuntu.

Hoary??!! Sounds scary, good luck, I hear a lot of people having problems. But I guess you know what you're doing- you got this thing going.
I really appreciate it, I'm not a coder but I certainly use my MD a lot. I'd like to get some instructions a person like me a follow.
Thanks again

I just tried it on Hoary. It compiles OK if you install the packages I mentioned earlier. The hotplug script does not appear to work on hoary, so you'll have to run the netmd tool with sudo.
