Hello, I can't speak to Emily's question, but I'd like to second it! I'd love to see an open-source, CUPS-based print management solution that is able to offer vending (automated print release), delayed or manual print release, and even integrates with a user database (like Libki). I recently shared our positive experience with Libki with some statewide email lists, and I received over a dozen responses. Every single one was asking about a companion print release software. While it's on my long-term to-do list to play with a manual-release CUPS queue to handle wireless printing, I don't have the dev chops to address a complete solution. Kudos on your plan, Emily - sounds great! FWIW, right now, I deploy Libki in a Win7 environment, with Envisionware's LPTOne for print release, and Deep Freeze to clean PCs between sessions. It works perfectly. Jessica D. Subject: [Libki-Users] Libki at the Library Hello! I'm a Linux newbie looking for some guidance. Our public library computing setup is less than ideal. It doesn't refresh after each session (bad for privacy!) and the session management and print management software is expensive and clunky. We currently have Windows 7, Deep Freeze, Envisionware Session Management (which we only use to remotely shutdown a PC when someone is viewing porn), and Print Management, which we use to manually release prints so patrons don't print 500 pages without paying. I stumbled upon this article about open source Linux setup at a library: https://libraryfreedomproject.org/gnulinuxinthelibrary/#more-979 I would love to make the majority of our public access computers Linux. I'd also like to offer a few Macs, and keep 2 or so PCs for those situations where a patron needs to install/use a certain program. Libki looks like a great option for session management. It is supposedly cross-platform, and it is FREE! It says it requires "Gtk2 support" on Mac OS X to work, though. What is that? (n00b, remember?) For Privacy, I can keep Deep Freeze on the PCs and Macs and setup the Linux machines as explained in the link above. For print management, I am stumped. Can I setup a Print Release solution that'll work on Mac, Linux, Windows? Any advice? Does anyone use print release management with Libki, and if so, what are you using? If I successfully pull off this transition, our library would be saving thousands of dollars a year, not to mention protecting patron privacy AND requiring very little maintenance.
