It depends on the needs you want full filled. I am currently using it (
lemonpos 0.9.4-rc7) in a small restaurant this performs what we need. I
also have a convenience store that I have not set up lemonPOS in because
there were some features that where not build it that made it harder to use
things like - selling bundles ( 1 for $1.50 or 2 for $2.25 ), coupons ( in
0.9.4rc8 or 0.9.5 dollar discounts were added), and there were a few other
features that were missing last I checked.  I have not "really" tested the
lastest release yet because I have also been working on another project.
To see if it would suit what you need you would have to install it and try
it out.

on BlipTv http://blip.tv/lemonpos-videos these are performed on Kubuntu.

I have heard of people trying to get it to work on Fedora but I do not
remember if the replied with success or not. Sometimes with these things
people try and get it to work and just don't say anything after. I
personally just use Ubuntu, Kubuntu, or Xubuntu mainly because I do not
have time to test the other distributions.

I have not tried that ether so I have not input.

I will tell you that the other project I have been working on is also a POS,
but I cannot give out to much information at this point because it is still
a work in progress.  Hopefully by the beginning of the year we will be able
to give people some solid info on it. One thing I can tell you is that the
developer of this project and the devoloper of another POS are also working
with me on this and so it should be a more solid program. Nothing has been
said to this mailing list because we were not sure if we were going to be
able to get this project up and running. I will send out a general
annoucement soon about this project once I have some better information.
