Hi, This is a very large email, thats why i did not replied soon. (Benjamin: this could be in the wiki) First, lemonPOS is a general Point of sale, not focused on a specific business kind, trying to serve to as many as possible kinds of business. Some features of lemonPOS exists thanks to individuals who donated some money for they features to be added in lemonPOS. This is the case of the Special Products feature, developed for a bakery who sells cakes that are prepared and orders are taken from the clients specifying flavors, size(weight), shape, and other characteristics of the cake. The basics about Groups and Special Orders. Groups or Packs are groups for normal products, they cannot contain another group/pack and cannot contain RAW products. Group price and tax is calculated based on its components, at the needed moment. The group has a Price-drop that is a discount % applied on each of its components. This is used to calculate the group price and tax. For this reason, the group price, cost and taxes are not editable on squeeze. This way, you may change the price of each component without changing again the price of the group or groups where the product is part of. Also this is required to calculate the correct taxes. Also, the group availability (stock) is checked when needed, because this way also you can change stock of the group content at any time and the group got the availability when needed based on the content stock level. The group content can be hidden (not printed) on tickets. This option is found in the Print tab of the lemon config. Only for groups, not for Special Orders. Special Orders are orders taken for special products like cakes. When selling a special order, only special products can be added to the sale. So no groups nor normal products can be added to the sale. As explained before, special orders are for selling products to be prepared or manufactured in a way that the client chooses its ingredients or components, size or weight, color, shape,etc.. The components are printed in the ticket for the client to know what did he/she ordered exactly. The components of a special order are the RAW PRODUCTS, this products are exclusively for this purpose, they cannot be sold separately. For example this would be an special order: One wedding cake made of: * 5 Lb of vanilla flavored bread. * Round shaped, 5 floors, catalog num 3. * A white cover, vanilla flavored. * A Decorative couple figure. The special orders may sound good for restaurants too, but there are some bad things for this to work, i can tell at least: *They took too much time to enter each special order. *Need to enter data not needed at restaurant (pickup date for example). *They need to be confirmed (payment completed) even when payment is complete on the first payment. *Cannot add normal products or groups to a sale with an special order or vice versa. A way you can use lemonpos in a restaurant is to enter each item in your menu as a normal product, also using groups when this makes sense in the way it is implemented. The way to track inventory of the ingredients used in each recipe for a product, is to use groups, but groups cannot contain groups inside. I consider some situations as a little bit difficult to calculate inventory level and amounts used in a product, for example an hamburger, how much tomato takes to make an hamburger? how much mayonese? it is used exactly the same amount in each hamburger every time? Maybe i have an engineer mind in which everything must be finite and measurable :D The double clicking problem is solved in 0.9.4 version, added a field to let enter the amount.. Also this let you enter smaller quantities (like 0.4, 0.25)..
