Why do you need the kernel to be recompiled? I guess loading the 
required module for eth1 should be enough.

I would not know why it could not be a kernel module. Some AI stuff?

If you have the hardware (which I believe ist quite expensive) why not 
give it a go yourself. You just need to look if the module is not yet 
enabled in the toolchain for the raspi.
