right -- a good tonemapping algorithm (with all parameters suitably tweaked) will bring everything into the gamut, so this problem will never arise. But depending on the algorithm and parameters, there may still be a need to deal gracefully with values that fall outside of the gamut. But perhaps this is just an odd use case for a ICC engine.
