Hi Michael, hi list, good news for my M50530 display! My "soldering-iron-guy" mailed me, that it's working great with a uclibc compiled lcd4linux 0.9.10 - he putted it onto a beta fli4l [1] 2.1.4. He asked me, if I want a special "magic" pcb wich is able to support the displays needed voltages out of the ps/2 keyboard-port. He will solder it alltogether and send me the "pnp" display back. I'll try to get the scematics too and send it to you, if you want. Are you able to visit the linuxday at nov. 15th in Dornbirn [2]? The eisfair [3] and fli4l team will be there, showing easy made routers and servers - most of them equipped with lcds. Maybe there is a way to stay at our quarter from friday 14th till sunday morning 16th near dornbirn to have more time to speak. Just let me know what you are thinking. Regards Stefan [1] http://www.fli4l.de [2] http://www.linuxday.at [3] http://www.eisfair.org |

There are three signals that may not be used: - RW (Read/Write) may be hardwired to GND - ENABLE2 is only used with big displays - GPO is only used for the GPO latch if you have any GPO's > 1) does lcd4linux sends signall to all pins of printer port No, it does not. Hi, I have just lunch lcd4linux, It works *Yeaa*, I had to change HD44780.c to fit my winamp wiring. But i have some other things witch i can't do. On 17 pin of printer port *AUTOFD* i have some other device. In documentation I found that this pin is not required in normal work, this is only optional if I plan to use more then 2 LCD or with 2 controllers. The problem is that lcd4linux during starts sends some signals to this pin. My question is: 1) does lcd4linux sends signall to all pins of printer port 2) how can I set up HD44780.c wiring section to fit my needs ?. Currently I have sth like this: Write.RW "GND" Write.RS "INIT" Write.ENABLE "STROBE" Write.GPO "AUTOFD" Maybe I should switch my devices from 17 *AUTOFD* to 14 *nRW* ? thanks. great work. |

I don't know. But what you're making here is not exactly an lcd, but a circuit to control an lcd from serial (old version) or usb port. The displays they are controlling are HD44780 compatible. lcd4linux is capable of controlling such displays on its own, you have to connect them to the parallel port. > could anyone give me some suggestions to > make my own display?, or where could i buy lcd's from Matrox Orbital in > SouthAmerica? sorry, absolutely no idea. I'm starting to get really angry on this libtool stuff. As Patrick (the author of the new liblcd4linux) said about libtool, "it is part of the problem it is trying to solve" config.sub is a file from libtool, which you don't have. It's automagically added to the tarball, but not to CVS. I just added the file manually and commited. Maybe you will be bitten by this f*cking sourceforge 24 hours anonymous cvs delay, so do a 'cvs update' and check for the existance of the 'config.sub' file, and maybe wait a few hours. I can send you the file per mail, too (but not to the list). Hi there, I finished the support for icons, animations and heartbeat in lcd4linux. As these features requred a lot of recoding, there's a lot of potential for bugs. Before I release 0.9.11, I want as many beta-testers as possible. So if you're interested in this icon stuff, visit http://lcd4linux.sourceforge.net, there's you'll see a nice animation. If you thinks this is really cool and amazing, check out the latest version from CVS, test it, and send me some feedback! If you need any assistance, either with CVS or the new configuration, please let me know! Hi all I have a question: my LCD is a 24x2 hd44780, I want to show various data on line one but the ppp info in line two. this is what i thought to do: Create 4 rows like this: Row1 "BUSY..." Row2 "PPP..." Row3 "Linux 2.4.20..." Row4 "PPP..." (this line is identical to line 2) I define rows 4, scrool 2, to force lcd4linux to skip the rows two by tow, so that on line 2 i get always the PPP information. However this does not work, as lcd4linux will only skip one line at a time. Is this a bug or an intentional feature? Thanks |

Hi Joachin, > I'm using a 40x4 LCD > I took CVS and put controllers=2 in conf file... > Result: Blank LCD.. nothing at all. > > With the old lcd4linux I got 2 rows out of 4.. Hmmm... I don't have such a large display. My smaller ones do work correctly. But there was a bug in the changed parallel prot code, which I have fixed. Could you please try again? At the moment there's a problem at sourceforge with their anonymous CVS access. Anonymous access is routet to their backup servers, which are updatet with a 24 hours delay only. This means, if I commit a bugfix, it may take up to 24 hours until anybody else sees this change. This is very annoying.... Anybody has a hint for a workaround? So please double-check if your "parport.c" is "v1.6", otherwies you got the old version. > Btw, how should I write in conf file when I have Enable 1 on pin 17? > I'm using the same display on ELMP, so wouldn't want to rewire it. Hei, I'm using a 40x4 LCD I took CVS and put controllers=2 in conf file... Result: Blank LCD.. nothing at all. With the old lcd4linux I got 2 rows out of 4.. Btw, how should I write in conf file when I have Enable 1 on pin 17? I'm using the same display on ELMP, so wouldn't want to rewire it. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Michael Reinelt" <re...@eu...> To: "Stefan Krister" <ste...@cr...> Cc: <lcd...@li...> Sent: Thursday, August 21, 2003 7:45 AM Subject: Re: [lcd4linux] 40x4 display with HD44780 > >>There are large (40x4) displays which internally constist of two > >>HD44780 chips, with two seperate "Enable" lines. Hi Jan, I'm again CCing this to the list. Lets talk about this in public :-) Jan Kloppenburg schrieb: [M50530 Display from old Phone, with some sort of 'symbols' on one line] > if i have the lcd working, i'll try to get this function into lcd4linux's > M50530.c, i love open source :) > but lets start with the wiring first... Well, that would be great. But: implementing this into the driver is probably easy, but how do you think this should be controlled from lcd4linux? How to specify this in lcd4linux.conf? I think I have a great Idea for this: Treat these symbols as GPO's! Normaly a GPO drives a LED, and there is already support for these GPO's in lcd4linux. Now think of these symbols as LED's! Just fill up the GPU function with your code, and we're done! > many thanx again, i'll let you know when i blew up the LCD :) :-) Have Fun! bye, Michael -- netWorks Vox: +43 316 698260 Michael Reinelt Fax: +43 316 692343 Geisslergasse 4 GSM: +43 676 3079941 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |

Anyway, since i already had the same display working with the 'winamp' style connection, those two lines were all i needed to do in order to get lcd4linux working. |

[I'm CCing this to the list. YOu should always post such questions to the list, maybe someone else could help you, and, more important, these questions and answers will be available to the public] Jan Kloppenburg wrote: > I have a HD44780 comatible lcd, nut also a problem. > I cannot run the LCD at all, because of the following error: > > [root@kernel lcd4linux-0.9.9]# ./lcd4linux -F -vvv > Version 0.9.9 starting > lcd4linux.c: initializing driver HD44780 > wiring: [PARPORT:GND]==>[DISPLAY:RW] > wiring: [PARPORT:AUTOFD]==>[DISPLAY:RS] > wiring: [PARPORT:STROBE]==>[DISPLAY:ENABLE] > wiring: [PARPORT:INIT]==>[DISPLAY:GPO] > udelay.c: CPU supports Time Stamp Counter > udelay.c: CPU runs at 908.108000 MHz > udelay.c: using TSC delay loop, 909 ticks per microsecond > parport.c: using ppdev /dev/printers/0 > parport: ioctl(/dev/printers/0, PPCLAIM) failed: 22 Invalid argument > HD44780: could not initialize parallel port! The solution is simple: you have to use /dev/parports/0 and not /dev/printers/0. /dev/parports/* are "raw" parport devices with major number 99, while /dev/printers/* are "printer" devices (major number 6). bye, Michael -- netWorks Vox: +43 316 698260 Michael Reinelt Fax: +43 316 692343 Geisslergasse 4 GSM: +43 676 3079941 A-8045 Graz, Austria e-mail: re...@eu... |
