Hi there, Today I released the second release candidate of LCD4Linux-0.10.1 Some nasty bugs have been fixed since RC1, and a compatibility issue with kernel 2.6.21 has been solved. Any feedback is welcome! bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

In a few minutes lcd4linux-0.10.1-RC2 will be released, where the bug is fixed. bye, Michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

Hi Marcel, > Now it already accepts the config file > but cant find the driver "serdisplib", but it certainly exists in /usr/lib... > Do I have to put it somewhere else, too? Have a look at the output of 'lcd4linux -l' (list drivers). If it doesnt show a serdisplib driver, it has not been compiled in. In this case you have to download the source package and compile it yourself. bye, michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

Okay, that was it - I found such a line in an entry on the timeline (lcd4l wiki), but it was like "Display 'xxx' Layout 'xxx'" where lcd4linux complained about the Layout part... Now it already accepts the config file but cant find the driver "serdisplib", but it certainly exists in /usr/lib... Do I have to put it somewhere else, too? Marcel ('Tanuva') Am Mittwoch, 18. Hello! I was just playing around with lcd4linux - built my configuration file and tried to run lcd4l, but I'm getting the following error message: marcel@marbuntu:~$ lcd4linux -f lcd4tanu.conf -Fvv Version 0.10.1-CVS starting plugin_cfg.c: Variable second = '1000' (1000) plugin_cfg.c: Variable tack = '100' (100) plugin_cfg.c: Variable tick = '500' (500) [KVV] Using station 89 [KVV] Using default port 80 [KVV] Using default refresh interval of 60 seconds [KVV] Default abbreviation setting: off missing 'Display' entry in lcd4tanu.conf! Like you can see below, there _is_ a 'Display' entry in my config file, so can you tell me what lcd4l expects me to add in the config? Marcel 'Tanuva' B. using Kubuntu 6.10 x86 with lcd4linux 0.10.1-CVS Here's my config, changed one I found somewhere to fit my display: Display SerdispTanu { Driver 'serdisplib' Port '/dev/parport0' Model 'HP12542R' Contrast 5 } Variables { tick 500 tack 100 # minute 60000 second 1000 } Widget CPU { class 'Text' expression uname('machine') prefix 'CPU ' width 9 align 'L' update second } Layout Default { Row1 { Col1 'CPU' } } |

Hmm, thanks for pointing that out. Well, I could use SourceForge's Download Service, although I don't like to :-) Sam, any ideas? > 3. gcc-Warning > Maybe you saw them yourself, but in case you missed them, here they are: Strange, I don't see this warnings. What version of gcc do you use? here its gcc (GCC) 4.1.2 20061115 (prerelease) (Debian 4.1.1-21) As long as I don't get the warnings, it will be hard to fix'em. > Is there a reason you didn't svn-tag the rc? I hope that there will be no more RC's in the future, but a much more frequent release cycle. > Damn. I just get to see the pictures of the displays in the wiki. Finally! I just bumped the version in Gentoo[1] and ran into few minor problems: 1. ChangeLog As you sure noticed, the ChangeLog shipped with the RC was not current. 2. Filename and URL There's a problem with you hosting the download files in the wiki: Besides the download being pretty slow (about 10kb/s), with a wget query the downloaded file's name will be "lcd4linux-0.10.1-RC1.tar.gz?format=raw". As renaming does not work with the Gentoo package management and mirror scripts, I cannot give your link as "source link" in the package. I worked around that problem by manually introducing the file into the Gentoo mirroring, but if it is possible in the future, please host the file outside the wiki. 3. gcc-Warning Maybe you saw them yourself, but in case you missed them, here they are: drv_BeckmannEgle.c: In function 'drv_BuE_CT_start': drv_BeckmannEgle.c:355: warning: overflow in implicit constant conversion drv_WincorNixdorf.c: In function 'drv_WN_start': drv_WincorNixdorf.c:143: warning: overflow in implicit constant conversion drv_Image.c: In function 'drv_IMG_flush_PPM': drv_Image.c:117: warning: format '%d' expects type 'int', but argument 4 has type 'long unsigned int' drv_Image.c:124: warning: format '%d' expects type 'int', but argument 3 has type 'long unsigned int' plugin_mysql.c: In function 'configure_mysql': plugin_mysql.c:93: warning: pointer targets in passing argument 6 of 'cfg_number' differ in signedness > The 'trunk' was bumped to version 0.10.2, but there will be no > development until 0.10.1 is released. > > I'd appreciate any tests and feedback on RC1, so we can release 0.10.1 > shortly, and continue work on 0.10.2 (there are plans for scrolling, > finally!) Hi there, Thanks to Martin Hejl (who kicked me in the ass some days ago), I released the first release candidate of LCD4Linux-0.10.1 Have a look at http://lcd4linux.bulix.org for details, download, and a (probably incomplete) list of changes. The 'trunk' was bumped to version 0.10.2, but there will be no development until 0.10.1 is released. I'd appreciate any tests and feedback on RC1, so we can release 0.10.1 shortly, and continue work on 0.10.2 (there are plans for scrolling, finally!) Note that I got two cool displays recently, but I withstood to develop a driver for them, but released RC1. So that's the main reason for releasing that seldom: every time I'm thinking of releasing something, someone sends me a new and unsupportd display :-) Have fun, Michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

The insecure solution: make lcd4linux a set-uid-root program ( chmod u+s `which lcd4linux` should do the trick) The secure solution: write a very small and obviously correct program that starts and stops lcd4linux depending on the existance of a file (or better input from a socket). Now let your PHP script manipulate that file (or output to the socket). Regards, Johan > > Piet > > |

Hi Piet, > How can I start stop LCD4LINUX from a PHP script running > on an Apache webserver. > When i use exec() the command is refused because the user is > apache and lcd4linux only allows to run from root user. No, that's not true. Basically LCD4Linux could run as any user. But there's a security check, it refuses to work if the config file (usually /etc/lcd4linux.conf) does not belong to the current user, and/or group or others have access to it. So if you want to run lcd4linux as 'apache', make shure that /etc/lcd4linux.conf is owned by apache, too, and that it's permissions are 0600. Depending on your display, the user apache must have access to the LCD device, too. HTH, Michael -- Michael Reinelt <re...@eu...> http://home.pages.at/reinelt GPG-Key 0xDF13BA50 ICQ #288386781 |

If you haven't been able to tell I am new at this. Is there an easy way to find out what options I have available, weather it is looking in the code or anything like that? _________________________________________________________________ Invite your Hotmail contacts to join your friends list with Windows Live Spaces http://clk.atdmt.com/MSN/go/msnnkwsp0070000001msn/direct/01/?href=http://spaces.live.com/spacesapi.aspx?wx_action=create&wx_url=/friends.aspx&mkt=en-us |
