This is a bug in 2.8.4, so it is not related to your setup. No need to switch to Gnome ;). At least one other user reported it already, too. I hope to have a fix available soon. By the way, you should still be able to move the dialog with pressing your ALT key and clicking somewhere at the dialog. You can drag the dialog now around. This allows you to access all buttons. KRename 2.9.0 (the new development series) makes great progress, too. And I hope I can release it soon. The main new feature will be that you can rename on for example ftp servers.
