The correct way would have been to change the "Release: " field in the spec file from 1 to 2. RPM would then automatically have created a file krename-2.6.0-rc2-2.i386.rpm. This would garantee that rpm recognizes the new rpm as newer than the old one (because of the higher release number). Maybe you want to create an updated rpm with the new release number, but only if you have enough time left! > Obviously I did this to distinguish the corrected version from the > broken one :) I haven't a clue about rules for naming this kind of > thing, so feel free to change it, and more importantly, feel free to > give me any teaching on this matter that I may be in need of :) Teaching is above ;). > In closing, though I'm glad that the RPM now works to my satisfaction, > I'm still puzzled: why did it appear to be installed in the right > location before my last re-installation of Red Hat 9? Just a wild guess, but might be the answer. > And also, I'm sure you figured this out already, but please upload this > new, corrected, RPM of Krename to the appropriate location :) Yes, I will upload it tonight or tommorrow morning - I am a little bit short on time today ;-).
