Hi there, I've encountered a few problems with krename, first of
 all it put's libraries under /usr/share/apps/blablabla, this
 should not be done, and the other problem is that when doing a
 make install, it install the executable binary with the name
 TARGET-krename(eg.
/usr/bin/i585-mandrake-linux-gnu-krename).
and when doing a make install with make install prefix=3DBLABLA in
 stead of make install DESTDIR=3Dblabla, it fails when it comes to
 the header files.

well, I've included a patch with a quick fix for some of this, and
 I guess this package will work, although I did move the libraries
 to /usr/lib/kde3, I hope this won't break anything=3D)

Hier ist das Script. Es ist in python geschrieben und l=E4uft unter SuSE8=
=2E0 mit=20
installierten NVDIA Treibern.=20

Usage:
=09ds-suse-nvidia-rpm.py [name-des-tarballes]

Vieleicht kann es noch jemand anderes brauchen.

[Krename-users] mal paar Anregungen

Hallo Dom,

1) "add krename to Konquerors context menu" ist bei mir noch in=20
englisch, w=E4hrend alle anderen Texte Deutsch sind

2) Ich habe hier schon KDE 3.1. KDE 3.1 kommt mit einem Haufen=20
Plugins, deshalb w=FCrde ich die, die Du selber geschrieben hast,=20
nicht mehr mit installieren.

3) Die Sache mit der Datei Erweiterung w=FCrde ich in einem Punkt=20
"settings" oben in der Leiste auslagern.

4) Es war mal im Gespr=E4ch die Gui umzubauen. Wann wollen wir das=20
machen ??? Ich w=FCrde ja vorschlagen: Gleich :-) (Mr. Ungeduldig)
Ich w=FCrde einfach die vier Schritte die man nun gehen muss in 4 Tabs=20
unterbringen. Dann wird das alles ein wenig klarer.=20

5) Ich finde nach wie vor die L=F6sung mit den "Unterst=FCzte=20
=46unktionen" ungl=FCcklich. Zum einen wirkt es einfach nicht sch=F6n,=20
zum anderen werden die Funktionen der ausgew=E4hlten Plugins auch=20
nicht angezeigt

6) Die Keyw=F6rter f=FCr die ausgew=E4hlten Plugins sind Case Sensitive.=20
Darauf muss man erst einmal kommen.=20

7) Ich finde es merkw=FCrdig (f=E4llt mir aber erst jetzt auf), da=DF man=20
kein KDE Men=FC hat. Also kein "Datei - Beenden", "=DCber" etc. Das=20
fehlt mir :-)

8) Dann w=FCrde ich 3) in die Settings bringen, au=DFerdem noch ein=20
"DefaultDir" in das er beim ausw=E4hlen von Dirs oder Files immer=20
springt.

krusader 1.10 comes with support for krename !

1) Krename support - http://krename.sf.net .
2) new internal editor & viewer.
3) the command line can be used to "cd" into konqi supported urls.
4) crashes on konfigurator open and right-click menu were fixed.
5) crash on FAM enabled system was fixed.
6) various GUI bug that came with the KDE3 porting are gone
   (but so are the mouse selection modes).
7) you can now (try to) execute commands on remote file-systems.
8) fixed the panel sorting problems.

I think for power users the KRename GUI is much better, but it could be=20
simplified.

well, I agree, that the GUI of krename should be (maybe) more easy.
Specialy the plugin concept etc.... BUT: I think the Gui of
picorename sucks even more. I don't like it. Not all all. I do not
see the big advantage.

I got some excellent feedback from Eugenia. What do you think of her idea=

about the KRename GUI and the PecoRename GUI? She is totaly right that=20
KRename should not add itself to the KDE context menu without asking the=20
user. I am going to fix this.

Hello,
I am the editor in chief at OSNews, who wrote the article on KDE's usabil=
ity
a few days ago. These days I also participate at KDE's Usability
discussions.

This morning I tried Krename, and I found that its user interface is not
well designed (no offence btw, just some constructive critisism :)
It is truly confusing the user, and that ogg plugin it is the defaul
selection, which is not what most people would use anyway. Also, adding a
"rename with Krename" option on the context menu of KDE while there is
already a "Rename" there, it really screws up KDE's usability. It does no=
t
even ask the user if you want it there or not. You should ask the user th=
e
first time he runs krename if he wants that on the context menu or not.

When I used to use BeOS, there was that _great_ application called
PecoRename. It was one of the best utilities ever written for BeOS, and
indeed worked very well. PecoRename did not support plugins like your ogg
one, or RegExp, but it had some other main functionalities. However, its
strong point, it was its gui! Because the guy who wrote that app was a we=
b
designer, he was used to creating well crafted UIs. In fact, as I remembe=
r,
all of his applications were great, UI-wise. He is also German, so you tw=
o
can chat if you want. :)

Please-please, take a look at my screenshot attached to this email, and g=
o
through to the UI design of PecoRename. I think it works beautifully, and=
 I
would love to see Krename following a similar path, of course, by adding
your extra modes as well.

in reply to your question, the answear is YES.
we're still intersted in Krename.

the original idea was to add it to the Krusader II branch, but
 since shie is working hard on the GUI i maintain the kde3 branch.
 currently i put the finishing touches on the 1.03 version and i'd
 love to add Krename support for 1.04-beta1.

the only question that remains is what is the right way to do this
 ? does Krename have a command line API ?
if yes, i'll use it the same way i use Kompare.
if no, than i need to hear from you on how you think it should be
 done.

i also like to hear how do you see the Krename integration from the
 user point of view - how does the user mark files and than Krename
 works on those file or does it just open in the current directory,
 or maybe just an external tool (my least favorite idea).

1) wenn man lange Dateinamen unbenennt, dann muss man manchmal untem=20
im Fenster nach links & rechts scrollen. Wenn man nun aber oben die=20
Werte f=FCr das Muster =E4ndert, wird logischerweise der Fensterinhalt=20
ge=E4ndert und der Scrollbalken wieder auf 0 gesetzt - also ganz=20
links. Nun muss man also wieder scrollen....... Kann man das =E4ndern=20
?

2)  Das suchen und ersetzen von Sonderzeichen, also "&" oder "[ ]"=20
klappt nicht.

3) die "available Funktion" finde ich gut, jedoch nicht gerade=20
perfekt gel=F6st. Kann man das nicht so machen, das Du dort nur die=20
Gruppen ausw=E4hlst und dann in dem bereich darunter, die jeweiligen=20
Platzhalter angezeigt werden ?

4) Das Muster "[1-2] - [*4-]" sollte ja jedes neues Wort  gross=20
schreiben. Wenn das vierte Zeichen ein leerzeichen ist und das Wort=20
mit dem 5ten Zeichen anf=E4ngt, dann wird das wort nicht umgewandelt=20
!

Die Plugin Geschichte von KDE ist genial ! Wirklich. Wenn das sich=20
wirklich durchsetzt, dann ist krename die eierlegendeWollmichsau.

Da es auf der kbarcode Liste ein bischen Off-Topic ist schreibe ich mal h=
ier.
Das geheimnisvolle neue Feature ist vollgendes:
Krename unterst=FCtzt jetzt KFilePlugins, also die MetaFile Info Dinger a=
us dem=20
Eigenschaften Dialog von Dateien. Das ganze sieht aber f=FCr den User aus=
 als=20
w=E4ren es ganz normale Krename Plugins. Somit gibt es jetzt viele Plugin=
s f=FCr=20
Krename die ich nicht schreiben muss ;). F=FCr KDE 3.1 sind einige neue K=
File=20
Plugins geplant wie z.B.: ein AVI Plugin usw. Diese sind dann einfach in=20
Krename zu benutzen.

just open the "search and replace" box and replace "_" with "." or=20

that have a "_" between the file names. I wish to change all of the "_" t=

".", or periods.

Could someone kindly spot me on how to accomplish this?

You could also try to install the RedHat rpm, it should work on Mandrake,=
 too.

if you still want to compile from source you have to install the X Devel=20
packages and the KDE3 devel packages. The packages qt3-devel, xdevel and=20
kde*-devel are required. Maybe the names differ on mandrake.

I have a following symlink's

libXext.so -> libXext.so.6.4
libXext.so.6 -> libXext.so.6.4
libXext.so.6.4

So this should be fine.

I have tried your 
./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/include
--x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib.
without any luck.

I have NOT installed the devel version.

Please anybody - where do I go from here. ??

Hi, 


When i try to run 

./configure --x-includes=/usr/X11R6/lib --x-libraries=/usr/X11R6/lib

I get following error.

checking for libXext... no
configure: error: We need a working libXext to proceed. Since configure
can't find it itself, we stop here assuming that make wouldn't find

I have verified that the libXext.so.6 and libXext.so.6.4 is located in 
/usr/X11R6/lib

Does anybody know what is wrong ? 

I am running Mandrake 8.2 /KDE3.0
