just wanted to say that this did work. Thanks for the suggestion. Annoying to have to reconfigure everything in KDE again, but at least I can use rename again, and that Amarok error message is gone as well. :-) Thanks, Yuri, Jared Breland jbr...@le... http://www.legroom.net On 01/08/2017 01:46 PM, Jared wrote: > thanks. thanks. I'm in the middle of some rather intense video transcoding right now that I don't want to interrupt (since this will require a logout), so I'll give that a shot probably tomorrow evening and report back the status. Can be fixed by removing (or just moving) the files. They are in ~/.kde(4)/share/config for KDE 4 or in ~/.config for KF 5 KRename version. The similar case: https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=115&t=91763 Hope this helps. Best regards, Yuri |

I take that back. Amarok's acting weird, too. It can still see and play my music files, but it gives a rather unhelpful error on startup: The process for the file protocol died unexpectedly. Also, if I open the properties for a file while it's playing, it'll show me the details of the metadata and whatnot, but if I click the link to open the directory containing the file, that operation silently fails. I'm guessing this is related to the the krename issues I described below. Maybe some kind of KIO issue? Just grasping at straws. I can't find any good way to troubleshoot either of these. Any suggestions? Thanks. I've been using krename for a long time now, but I've recently begun having issues when trying to rename files. There are two separate problems, but I feel pretty sure they're somehow related: 1. Adding files to krenameis *really* slow. For example, if I start krename then drag-and-drop 5 files into it, it'll take 10+ seconds to process and show up. If I launch it through the dolphin context menu by selecting all files in a directory to be renamed (Actions, Rename with KRename), it can take over a minute to open, with no obvious indication that it's doing anything. 2. Once the files are finally processed everything seems to run correctly, but when I click Finish to have it start renaming the files, it fails for every file. I get no information why, just: Error renaming file:///file1.txt (to file:///file1-new.txt) There's about a 2-second pause between the error message for each file, like it's trying really hard to do something but just can't. Any ideas what might be causing this? I couldn't find any log files from krename or any obvious way to debug it. It seems like it might be some kind of filesystem issue, but this occurs whether the files are local or an NFS share, regardless of filename complexity, and no other applications seem to have any trouble reading or modifying files. I'm officially stumped. Would appreciate in help. Thanks. -- Jared Breland jbr...@le... http://www.legroom.net |

Hello, Everyone I have been having a problem with KRename. The only way I can start it is if I press "alt + F2" and type the entire path: "/usr/bin/krename" I cannot start it at all if I compile it from source and install it in an alternative path. The closest thing that I can get to an error message when I try to run it from a terminal is this: > [steve@afolkey2 ~]$ krename > kdeinit4: Shutting down running client. > Connecting to deprecated signal QDBusConnectionInterface::serviceOwnerChanged(QString,QString,QString) > kbuildsycoca4 running... > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > QLayout: Attempting to add QLayout "" to QWidget "", which already has a layout > ASSERT: "!isEmpty()" in file /usr/include/QtCore/qvector.h, line 260 > KCrash: Application 'krename' crashing... > KCrash: Attempting to start from kdeinit > KCrash: Connect sock_file=/home/steve/.kde/socket-afolkey2.us/kdeinit4__0 > Could not find '' executable. > KCrash: Attempting to start directly > KCrash failed to exec(), errno = 2 > [steve@afolkey2 ~]$ If you need more info, feel free to let me know. I have been using krename for a while now the one feature that I see is needed is in the advance rename the ability to save all the find and replace entries. To make mass renaming files quicker. |

Hello, You may know of the upcoming software centers in KDE and GNOME. These require that packages ship an appdata.xml file which is to be installed in /usr/share/appdata/ . The file contains a brief description of the package, links to 16:9 screenshots and website and contact info. You can read more about the specifications here: http://people.freedesktop.org/~hughsient/appdata/ or here: http://www.freedesktop.org/software/appstream/docs/chap-Quickstart.html There is also a pending proposal for the next versions of Fedora to not include in the software centers packages without appdata (though a user could install them from the terminal with dnf or yum). Although I do not use graphical installers myself, I think that the software centers present a great opportunity for developers to showcase their applications and of course for the users, to discover said applications. If you do not have enough time, I could write an appdata for you and provide 16:9 screenshots, though I do not use KDE, so it would appear with MATE or GNOME window decorations. Please let me know of your decision, so that I may update the list of applications in Fedora. Best regards Alex |

Broadly speaking, KDE uses DocBook for documentation so the docs should be converted into DocBook first to comply with KHelpCenter. If it's needed by developers to update and improve the current docs I can do this. Best regards, Yuri |

Hi, I'd like to request a feature: as you know, the tool has a function to create symbolic links. The shell command "ln" has a function to create relative symbolic links: it's "ln -s -r". But that works only with one file per shell command – if you want to make many symbolic links of this type, it can be a bit annoying. "cp" hasn't a function for that, too. It would be great, if there would be a possibility to use that option in krename. I think, it shouldn't be a problem, because krename uses "ln" to create symbolic links, as I suppose. In addition, to create many symbolic links with a graphical tool is much more comfortable than to do that task with a shell command. For what purpose may that? In some cases, you want to copy a directory structure (which include symbolic links) to a portable storage medium, e. g. an USB flash drive or CD/DVD. Then, you must use relative symbolic links, because the path isn't the same on the portable medium as on your local file system. I had that situation with music files that I made from YouTube-Videos. There were videos files from the same singers in different YouTube channels, and on the other side, in some YouTube channels were videos from different singers. So, I saved that in directories that are named after the YouTube channels, but I want that sort secondly after the singers. Thus, I had to use relative links, if I want to copy that directory structure on a portable storage medium and copy that then to another computer. I would be very happy if you could a such feature to krename. Kai |

So it's a bit outdated (more than 8 years). If your package works as expected (my works great) there is nothing to worry about. ;) Best regards, Yuri |

KRename message bar missing I cant find the /Settings/ menu item, nor /Extras/ nor /Help/ My KRename gui window reads ------------------------------------------------------- KRename ------------------------------------------------------- |1. Files | 2. Destination | 3. Plugins | 4. Filename | ------------------------------------------------------- There is no sign of the "/Extras/Settings/Help/" bar that is shown on page 6 #2.2 of the manual. Same thing happens if I run krename from terminal as new user sudo. Could this be the same packaging problem as suggested at https://forum.kde.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=86690 ?? I'm using KRename in Krusader on Ubuntu 12.04 Terminal message for "krename" pasted in below the line, in case this helps This problem apart, KRename is very nice. Hi, after a few (?) years I have created an update for the greek translation of Krename. See the attached file. I am sending this e-mail to a couple of addresses hopping that it will reach the Krename developers. I would also like to make a request, and report a couple of bugs. ___ Request ___ Please open the bug tickets in Sourceforge. It's easier to report bugs there, than having to subscribe to, yet another, mailing list. ___ Bugs ___ + Command line description The command line descriptions shows HTML elements, like "<html><p>". To see what I mean simply type, in a terminal... krename --help You probably already know that. I am just reminding you... + Command line, [$dirname] template The following DON'T work. (The first line, which represents the command line, will produce the second line, in Krename's GUI interface). krename --template +[$dirname] somefile.txt +[] krename --template +"[$dirname]" somefile.txt +[] krename --template +'[$dirname]' somefile.txt +DIRECTORY_NAME.txt krename --template "+[$dirname]" somefile.txt +[] krename --template "[$dirname]" somefile.txt [] The following WORKS. krename --template '[$dirname]' somefile.txt DIRECTORY_NAME.txt As you can see, that's a lot of trial and error to get it right. If this is not a bug, then maybe the "krename --help" should be improved. I propose... [bash 4.2]$ krename --help ... ... --template 'TEMPLATE' set a TEMPLATE ... ... [bash 4.2]$ The same with the rest of the options, if the above apply. And in the end, an example will be helpful. That's all... Thanks Nikos |
