I've update to mandrake 82, and kreatecd falls... ==================== Javier Romero comunicaciones CEDEX 913357274 |

Hello, I've been using kreatecd for quite a while now, and actually, I like it (after all, it is the only burn app I use, besides cdrdao form the cmdline from time to time...) And I must say, v1.1 has been a big improvement. For what and how I use it, there are only two more things I'd like to be able to do, and I just can't find out how (if) they can be done right now. Actually, both go hand in hand: 1. It happens quite often that I start a burn, and then leave my computer to do something else while the process is running (valuable things like cooking or cleaning ;-)). When I come back, I find the process has finished, but: Kreatecd does not tell me, if there had been any errors during the burn process, as it happens occasionally with the cheap CD-R's I'm using. Is it possible to display a warning / see the cdrecord output after the burn process has finished wit an error? 2. Is it possible to do a verify of the written data against the source, at least for data tracks? (Xcdroast used to have suc a nice feature) Thanks in advance for your answers. Andreas |

Doh... soon after making my last post I found out why I could not burn CD's. I had simply forgotten to select the radio button in the scsi setup to select a device. My compiled version of kreatecd now works fine. Mandrakes's version is however still busted in the way I described. Problem between keyboard and brain... derek |

However under a normal user a CD can still be burned while under root when the final confirmation 'Write CD' button is pressed... nothing happens. (and nothing gets printed to stdout) All applications required by kreatecd have group permissions of 'cdwriter' as does /dev/scd0, and my user is a member of cdwriter group. So I gave up on Mandrakes version, and finally succeeded in compiling kreatecd from source. Kreatecd can then find all the required applications, but now I get the problem of nothing happening when pressing the 'Write CD' button as a user as well as root. I'm sure it is very close to working. I have tried many permutations of permissions, but surely if Mandrakes version can write to a CD, then the compiled version should be able to do so with the same permissions. Thanks in advance for any suggestions. derek |

Has anyone managed to get kreatecd working on Mandrake 8.2 yet? The version distributed with the Mandrake install CD complains that it cannot find a path to /usr/bin/readcd The version in the kreatecd download area for Mandrake 8.1 is perfectly happy, but is compiled with libpng2 instead of libpng3, and none of the graphics are visible when used with Mandrake 8.2 I would compile from source but an issue with my Qt libraries prevents me compiling any KDE application (but thats another story) Thanks derek |

I am running kreatecd-1.1.0 under Slackware Linux 7.1 with KDE-2.2.2. I have copied an audio CD with the CD-Copy option but the resulting CD does not have the track titles :-{. I notice Kreatecd is using cdparanoia rather that cdda2wav to rip the tracks. According to the man pages, cdda2wav has the ability to read the 'cd-text' and 'cd-extra' information from the source CD but cdparanoia does not. Am I missing something obvious here? Can Kreatecd be told to use cdda2wav instead of cdparanoia and to dump the track titles too? As I understand it something like (from the cdrecord man page) is needed; cdda2wav -v255 -D2,0 -B -Owav cdrecord -v dev=2,0 -dao -useinfo *.wav Thanks Tom. -- Tom Crane, Dept. -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Having just found the mailing list for kreatecd and then subscribing, I thought I would make a few comments about usability issues that I have found. My previous cd burning experience has been using Easy-CD Creator under Windows, and since switching to linux some 18 months ago, my pile of files needing archive to CD had been growing whilst I figures out how to burn some CD. I came across kcreateCD and immediately started to release the backlog. The comments I have below are made in the spirit of trying to help a good programme get better. I would eventually like to help with coding, but at the moment I am not making much progress on my own personal project to improve another area so it will be a little time before I can be more constructive than just giving some ideas. Issues that I've had a) When starting up kcreate scans the scsi bus looking for my cd-r. For some reason it takes thirty seconds to complete (this is not just kreatecd - linux does the same when booting - I presume its not finding something). This long delay is annoying and I am not sure its necessary as you do it again just before starting a burn b) when starting up it tells me that it hasn't got paths for all the helper programs it needs. If I select the option of going to the dialog box to find them the options are all greyed out (actually they are not greyed out if you happen to be logged in as root when you run kreatecd). I tried manually filling in the filenames in ~/.kde/share/config/kreatecdrc in the [path] section but this doesn't seem to effect the contents of the paths dialog box c) Having burnt a cd and fixated the session, I want to add more files to the disk. In easy-CD creator I could import the directory from a previous session and then add the new files to it. There doesn't seem to be an option to do this in kreatecd. d) When running with the Data-CD screen, it would be much more convenient to be able to select multiple lines (shift click to extend and fill in, ctrl click to add the single new line to the current selection). This applies to both panes. e) When deleting an entry in the right hand pane, the selection point jumps from the deleted entry to the top of the tree. This is extremely annoying if trying to delete multiple entries (especially because the lack of d) ). It would be better if it went to the line below that has just moved up. f) There is no way to move things about in the hierarchy of the right hand pane so if you happen to accidentally drop it into the wrong place you have to delete and drop again. I hope these comments are useful. - -- Alan - al...@ch... http://www.chandlerfamily.org.uk -----BEGIN PGP SIGNATURE----- Version: GnuPG v1.0.6 (GNU/Linux) Comment: For info see http://www.gnupg.org iD8DBQE8UfqY1mf3M5ZDr2kRAi2zAJ47EN+48xcUlSm0yvxLqvJx3LgNcwCgpN6t MuVwZpgf3gFuBzibCizU/7Q= =ojr8 -----END PGP SIGNATURE----- |

I'm running kreatecd 1.1 and have good impressions of it. However now when I start it in 'Data CD' mode I get a pop up saying 'Kreate CD is working.... Claculating ISO 9660 size...' It stays there forever and I have to kill the application. I have tried deleting the '.cdp' file from my last use, but no difference. Any suggestions? TIA Derek |
