Hello everybody, I've been trying to install Kmatplot under Red Hat 8.0 with no success. I've tried both the 4.0 and 3 versions. The make fails, no matter what command line options I provide. The binary executable crashed complaining about a missing symbol in the QT library. I've read some messages that seem to indicate that some people have been able to make it work under RH 8.0. Please, could anyone provide information of what additional packages (and where they can be found) are necessary in order to make it compile? Thanks very much, Angel |

Please, I need your help. I can not compile kmatplot 0.4 under mandrake 9.0. I have the same problem: checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 2.2.2) (libraries) not found. Please check your installation! I read the list and found that there is a patch. Could somebody send me such file?. Hi all, I'm trying to install KMatPlot 0.4 at my site, but I don't have root privileges here. I did this: ./configure --prefix=my_installation_dir --with-oct-dir=mt_octave_installation_dir The command runs fine, ad also compilation ('make'). When I run 'make install', it starts copying files in the right place, but it stops when it reaches this: /bin/sh ../../admin/mkinstalldirs /usr/bin/install -c -p -m 644 ./kmatplotrc /kmatplotrc /usr/bin/install: cannot create regular file `/kmatplotrc': Permission denied make[3]: *** [install-rcfilesDATA] Error 1 make[3]: Leaving directory `/space2/downloads/graphs/KMathPlot/kmatplot-0.4/kmatplot/config' make[2]: *** [install-am] Error 2 It seems to me that it's trying to copy the default configuration file in the root directory, which is not only wrong for me (I want to install in my_installation_dir), but I guess also for those that install in /usr/local. Can anyone help me? I attach the config.log file if this can help. Thank you! Giampiero |

Thanks a lot for this patch... The only thing I had to do was to disable opengl, and then the compilation succeeded... I haven't looked a lot of time if everything is all right in kmatplot, but it seems to... Thanks a lot Nick. Ok, here's the patch I made which gives the diffs to get kmatplot0.4 to compile and run on mandrake 9.0. I have no idea if I can send attachments to this mailing list, so if this doesn't work, tell me and I'll put the file online somewhere else.. Instructions for whoever might need them or not: 1. get kmatplot-0.4 from kmatplot.sourceforge.net if you haven't already got it. 2. tar zxvf kmatplot-0.4.tar.gz 3. put this tiny patch in the kmatplot-0.4 directory. 3. Open up a console and type: patch -p1 < kmatplot-0.4mdk.patch As you can see if you take a look in the patch, the main problems were introduced with the newer version of gcc requiring code to adhere more strictly to c++ standards (in the kmatplot-0.4 code, there are some default arguments were in function definitions as well as in header files, and friend classes were not explicitly defined as being classes). There were also a few #include and namespace issues. Can you give me some feedback if it works or not. It works on my machine but you never know with computers do you ?! Hey there It seems that Kamil has disappeared.. However, I took a look at the v0.4 source code with kdevelop/mandrake9.0 and there were quite a few syntax and compile errors. After fixing them, it compiled and installed ok. (I haven't actually tried doing anything with it yet so I'm not sure how well it works other than it loads the examples ok.) If you want a copy of the modified code, I can put it somewhere on the web for you... I used ./configure --with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt3 --enable-mt It's possible that you might need to install some extra libraries before it will compile - run configure and see what it says! Also, you can ignore the deprecated header messages. Nick Hi ! I have a "big problem" when compiling kmatplot 0.4 on my mandrake 9... (libqt3, libqt3-devel, kdebase-devel and kdelibs-devel are installed) Every time I try to run configure, the answer is : checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 2.2.2) (libraries) not found. Please check your installation! I exported QTDIR, then ran ./configure... I tired other methods : -> Force him to go to my qt3 directories : ./configure --with-qt-dir=/usr/lib/qt3 --with-qt-libraries=/usr/lib/qt3/lib --with-qt-includes=/usr/lib/qt3/include -> my only hope is when I enable mt : ./configure --enable-mt , the configure script goes right, but when I run make, the system insult me :-( I have no more idea how to compile this great program... Thanks in advance G. LEGRAIN ps : the binaries dont work either... __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Hello, I can't seem to get kplot to work within octave, though it works fine standalone. The .oct files of kmatplot are installed in /usr/share/octave/site/m. Octave seems to know kplot exists, using the `exist' command, but I can't actually use the command or read its help. What have I done wrong? octave:4> exist "kplot" ans = 3 octave:5> kplot error: `kplot' undefined near line 5 column 1 octave:5> help kplot help: sorry, `kplot' is not documented $ octave --version GNU Octave, version 2.1.40 (i386-pc-linux-gnu). We have installed kmatplot version 4 on redhat 8.0 and are having difficulty plotting a 3 dimensional kmesh using Octave. These are the commands we have tried in Octave. kaddaxes(1); u = -5:5; v = u; [x,y]=meshgrid(u,v); z = x.^2 + y.^2; kmesh(u,v',z); The outcome from this is a broken pipe. We have tried various modifications. kmesh(x,y,z); yields a graph of slices of the parabloid. We would appreciate any help. Also how does one import data into kmatplot when kmatplot is running as a stand alone program? John Fuelberth |

Hi all, I'm VERY new to KMatPlot and I can't seem to find any documentation for the stand-alone KMatPlot program. I've found documentation for the API and a "docs" folder in the KMatPlot stuff, but it was basically empty. Does anyone know where I can get documentation? Thank you, Kristy |

Hello I'm working on an SGI running IRIX64 6.5 that has the threaded version of Qt 3.0.4 installed in /usr/local/qt. In trying to install kmatplot-0.4 I get the following errors running: ./configure --enable-mt checking for libjpeg6b... no checking for libjpeg... -ljpeg configure: warning: MT not yet supported on mips-sgi-irix6.5 - disabled. checking for Qt... configure: error: Qt (>= Qt 2.2.2) (libraries) not found. Please check your installation! For more details about this problem, look at the end of config.log. I don't get much additional information from config.log. Is this installation do-able? Am I missing the obvious ... ? Thanks in advance for any help you can provide. Dear Kamill, thank you for your very interesting project kmatplot. Do you plan to develop it further? It has some evident advantages in comparison with others due to wizard and convenient interface, with excellent 3D plotting, which is better than in an analogous Scigraphica. The idea of integration with Octave is good, but, IMHO, scientific python has more powerful library. Here I present some bugs, found in version 0.4, and some wishes. Bugs: 1. When I input axes labels with indices, they are shown correcly in the dialog window, but not on the plot. Fortunately, at the panel below among axes options I has an access to the HTML string; it is seen, that commands ... and ... are missed. They can be edit manually, of course, but similar solution does not exist for labels not attached to axes, since in this case HTML string is not accessible. The idea to edit *.kmp file looks bad. 2. Usage greek letters is very important, but, when I print plot in *.ps file, all greek symbols not seen. Note, in saving in gif and other bitmap format all of them are successfully seen. 3. If I use non-square matrix for surface plot, program died silently with segmentation fault. Or non-quare matrix are not supported? Note, that in the context help matrices MxN size are mentioned. In any case, program inform about problem rather than die. 4. When kmatplot is started in some (working) directory, open file dialog starts with the working directory. But import data dialog starts with my home directory, which is highly inconvenient! (should be working directory!) Wishes (! for most important): 1.(!) Import data from other format rather than octave's. At least to describe a custom input format, which can be prepared any C/fortran program 2.(!) Options in ps printing, like possibility to include some fonts into ps file, different postscript levels, if possible; direct export into eps. 3. Simple possibility to smooth/interpolate data (e.g. by splines), in each direction (if surface) independently. 4. Optional grid on the surface, not related to the initial grid of data matrix. Non-equidistant grid, e.g. if axes with log scales. 5. Plotting intermediate minor tics on log scaled axes, like 1 2,4,6,8,10,20,40,... with optional labelling 6. (!) Plotting surfaces from rectangular (not square) matrix. Best regards, Oleg Zhirov zh...@in... ------------------------------------------------------- |

Therefore I have subscribed in the hope, if you would please send the patch again, to receive it by mail. BTW: Isn't there the possibility to have this patch in the list archive to avoid sending the patch over and over again? If it is not possible to have an attachment in the archive, couldn't you put the output of the "diff" command directly into the mail. thanx Gerhard |
