i got an error code of 2. I was backing up my external hard drive to another external hard drive. there was approximately 10GBs of data.

As error codes are not to clear, and error 2 means "fatal error"... I presume that your external hard drive is in FAT format, so when compression file is over 4 Gigas you got an error.

If is that the case, is a FAT drive, then just split your backup in files smaller than 4 Gigas.
