Environment:

  • KeePass 2.61.1 x64
  • Windows 11

Problem:
KeePass currently uses fixed built-in keyboard shortcuts for many core actions.

For example:

  • Ctrl+I -> Add Entry
  • Ctrl+N -> New Database

However, there does not appear to be a way to customize most of these shortcuts.

The current shortcut for creating a new entry (Ctrl+I) feels unusual and unintuitive compared to common Windows application conventions.

From a practical usability perspective:

  • creating a new database is a relatively rare operation
  • creating new entries is a very frequent operation for many users

In my own usage, creating a new database happens perhaps once in several years, while creating new entries happens weekly or even daily.

Because of this, it would make more sense for the "Add Entry" action to use a more natural and memorable shortcut.

Examples:

  • Ctrl+Insert
  • Ctrl+Shift+N
  • or another configurable shortcut

Current limitation:
I could not find:

  • a built-in key mapping editor
  • shortcut customization support
  • or a plugin that allows remapping the main KeePass keyboard shortcuts

Only some global hotkeys appear configurable.

Expected behavior:
KeePass should allow users to customize keyboard shortcuts for main application actions.

Examples:

  • Add Entry
  • Edit Entry
  • Open Database
  • New Database
  • Copy Password
  • Copy Username
  • etc.

Benefit:
Customizable shortcuts would:

  • improve usability
  • allow users to adapt KeePass to established workflows
  • reduce friction for frequently used actions
  • improve accessibility and ergonomics

Suggested improvement:
Add a keyboard shortcut configuration section in the settings/preferences dialog.

Even limited support for remapping the most frequently used actions would already be very helpful.

Additional note:
If full shortcut customization is considered too complex, simply changing the default shortcut for "Add Entry" from Ctrl+I to something more conventional like Ctrl+Shift+N could already improve usability significantly.
