#2612 Limit suggested user names

When I create a new entry and type the first letter of my desired user name, a dropdown list is opened, populated with all the user names (starting with the same letter) I have ever used. Example:

  • username@domain.com
  • user@domain.gov.uk
  • UserMysteriousPerson007
  • UserSeriousBusinessMan01

I would like to suggest a possibility to edit this list so I can choose which ones appear in the dropdown list, e.g. only:

  • username@domain.com
  • user@domain.gov.uk

The main idea is that I used many user names only once, and mostly I want to have my email addresses suggested for user names. The general suggestion from that is to make the list of suggestions editable, e.g. I could choose somewhere which (previously used, or maybe even custom) user names I want to see in the list of suggestions.

Thank you.

You can't edit the list, it's created in real time from the existing database entries.
If you create templates you can specify anything you want.
File > Database Settings > Advanced

Thank you, that is a sort of a workaround, however, it requires the toolbar to be shown and mouse to be used (so it's slower in usage than my suggestion), also you need to choose in advance which user name you will use, and it does not help when editing existing entries. It would be much more convenient to have the option to be shown only a limited list of suggestions.

Other ways to limit the number of user names initially included in the drop down list are to eschew one-time user names, or choose one-time user names that do not start with the same first letter (or first few letters) as your preferred usernames.

For example if your preferred user names don't start with the letter 'O' you could add the prefix 'OT' to all of your one-time usernames.

Indeed this workaround works if you change your whole user name policy in advance, which is unfortunately not really practical.

It is probably good housekeeping to reduce the number of distinct user names. The user name funtction is account identification, while account protection is provided by passwords. Having a lot of user names is an extra compliction.

Well, perhaps some people do not want to be tracked based on user names across different platforms. Anyways, it is not feasible to change user names in hundreds of systems just so that a list in KeePass is more concise.
