When an entry has more information that just the password or when the site asks for random positions of the password, you have to open the "Edit Entry" dialog for look stuff up.
The problem is that, it was desided long time ago, that when the edit window is open, the "auto lock" is disabled. The reason is to avoid loosing unmodified data that the user hasn't saved yet.
I have to open the "Edit Entry" window many times a day and I find my database unlocked, showing an Edit Entry window, at least once every week and feel frighting having "my live" exposed for hours.
The "Edit Entry" already detects when an entry has been modified. I could be easy to just disable the "auto lock" when entry has been modified.
BUT if the developers decide against this, another solution would be to add an option that when you double click on an entry, it opens the entry in "Read Only" mode, that shouldn't block the "auto lock" feature . When you need to change an entry, Right click - Edit Entry should do the trick.

You don't need to open an entry for copying characters at certain positions from the password; the
{PICKCHARS}placeholder has been designed for this.https://keepass.info/help/base/placeholders.html#pickchars

If you need to collect characters manually ask here, we can probably find a solution that avoids editing an entry.

I still have to open the entries several times a day for copy extra info, like credit card details, IP addresses ... that I have in the "Notes" field.
And any one of them I risk to leave my database unlocked...
You can copy such info from the entry view of the main window.

Dominik
Or create custom fields for that info so you can drag n drop, Auto-Type etc.
