#1926 'Edit Entry' window lock suggestion

I suggest adding a timeout timer for the 'Edit Entry' window. After x minutes, it should popup a message reminding the user that it is open (and hence unlocked). Options could be
Leave it open
Remind me in x minutes
Save & close
Close without saving

If the user is no longer @ the keyboard, it can remain unlocked as your FAQ outlines. However, if the user is there but has forgotten, this could be very helpful.

This is still a problem. As I reread the FAQ I realized that the situation I'm talking about isn't addressed. I don't have windows lock when I'm away. Therefore, if I have the edit entry window open and walk away, the screen saver will eventually blank the screen but the edit entry window is still open and anyone can walk up and discover the password (actually ALL of my passwords!)

If the edit entry window data is unchanged, it should close itself when the timeout expires.

What if other data has been modified? That's why KeePass leaves it to you to ensure dialogues are closed.

OK. The reason I usually go to an edit entry window is to see the password. Then I alt-tab to the site's sign-in page and use it, forgetting that the edit entry window is open.
An alternative: A way to open the edit entry window in read only mode so it can safely timeout. Or a way to view the password without opening the edit entry window.

Copy / paste.
Ctrl H, or View > Configure Columns, tick Password.

You can automatically log in to most things using Global Auto-Type. http://keepass.info/help/base/autotype.html#autoglobal

You can gain even more flexibility by loading the KPEnhancedEntryView plug-in. http://keepass.info/plugins.html#kpenhentryview

Ctrl-H does it for me. Thanks. However, I don't think it should be 'sticky'. When Keepass closes/locks it should go back to the encrypted view and when I open it again (the next day?) the passwords should not show.

Although this is about locking when Windows locks, the reasons why no KeePass auto-lock occurs are exactly the same.

Like Paul wrote, you usually do not need to open the 'Edit Entry' dialog to use passwords.

I agree, it shouldn't be sticky across locking / unlocking - it already isn't sticky across KeePass runs.

As an aside, why do you need to read the password?
