I used to use a fingerprint scanner that would then type the password into KeePass. To have one fully integrated would require someone writes a plug-in and that is unlikely to be the developer as it would probably only work on one type of biometric device.
cheers, Paul

Hi, thanks for the reply. Any idea of how you did it before ? It would make logging in really hassle free. I'm on windows 8.1 and I use AuthenTec Truesuite to log me in using my fingerprint when windows starts.
Thanks

No, I think the version I have can only log me in when windows starts. It would be cool if Keepass could somehow make use of the generic biometric fingerprint driver in device manager. Also my password for Keepass I made deliberately different to my windows password so even if my software could 'fill-in' the password it wouldn't be quite as secure as what I'd want.

My personal laptop (HP, Simplepass by Authen Tec) does fill in the Keepass password using its fingerprint reader. My work laptop (Lenovo, Thinkvantage ) does not unless I pay for a better version. It depends on the fingerprint reader driver and if you can set it up to automatically enter passwords for software dialogues. My HP laptop will even start the keepass software if I scan my finger print once windows is running.
Personally I am quite happy I am forced to type it now and again because when using a finger print reader long term its easy to forget passwords.

Simple pass can be set to launch Keepass by scanning a finger. This done using Quick Actions found under fingerprints in the software.
Once keepass or any other screen requiring login is launched the software recognises the login and a icon pops up next to the login giving a chance to add it to the password manager, or you can go to the software direct and add the password in the password manager section. If the password is already stored in Simple Pass then just scan a finger and when recognised it will automatically enter the login details for the login. This works for many types of logins for programs other restrictions on my laptop. Its not for internet logins.

Windows 8 has standardized fingerprint scanning btw, you don't need simplepass, or truesuite, or any of that crap. You register your fingerprints within windows itself, and any program can use the biometrics API. Lastpass uses this API- this means you don't register your fingerprints in lastpass, lastpass uses windows to verify the scan.

The downside of using true biometric access is you will not be able to use your database on another device and if your PC packs up you will be without your database until you can rebuild and restore your biometric data. Using a biometric device to enter your master password is the best option.

That's what lastpass does. Your fingerprint isn't the key, or if it is it's just one of several different forms of validation. Not sure how they have it programmed but you certainly can still opt to type in the master password instead.
Michael I'm afraid I don't have any solutions for how to get it to work with keepass. Windows 8's support is internal and only extends to API access- programs must support it, it does not support random programs.

...There seems to be some confusion still. lastpass is a program similar to keepass that happens to support fingerprint scanning under Windows, but it is cross platform.
simplepass is HP's fingerprint management software, that I believe was abandoned many years ago. If you have 8.1 chances are your fingerprint scanner will just grab a driver from winupdate. Search the start screen in windows for "Set up fingerprint sign-in", and register your fingerprint there to enable logging into windows with your fingerprint, and also allow other applications (for example lastpass) to utilize your biometric data.

so I guess I could make the fingerprint scanner work with other programs.
Would it work with most and also internet websites?

As I said before on this thread. I am using Simplepass v5.2 and a Hp laptop with Keepass. I scan a finger to launch Keepass and then scan again to enter the password. It works.
To set up the launch you drag the Keepass short cut to a finger shown in the Quick actions. Keepass recognises all logins not just websites. When a there is login request Keepass asks if you want to use a finger print. I do this with several applications.

Which version do have? I read that there are some cut down versions. I have two versions of Simplepass to install if you want to try. sp52354.exe and sp55909.exe. Not sure which exe I have installed but the program says its 5.20.233a

I try to get some information about their WiFi speed before I reserve a

say "I don't know" and I tell them it's easy to find out, just go to
speedtest.com, some say I don't know how to do that. I only need 1.5 to 2
meg to connect with my dish receiver at home which isn't very fast by any
means but many of them don't even meet that. Anyway I give what you say a
shot and post back

First you will need to be sure Simple Pass is installed
