We use keepass to store hundreds of accounts for applications, internet, mail and hardware. In the meantime, the tree is relatively complex. Sometimes it happens that you want to show an entry in a group that is actually already been organized in a different group. Unfortunately an entry only can be in one group.
For example: There is a group for a specific application with different entries. Among them I need access to an SQL server. These entries are usually available in the group "SQL Server accounts".
I know that there is the ability to enter field references and i have seen two similar feature requests which are closed. However, these field references are not clickable. You cannot click on it to jump to the target, which has useful information about logon-procuderes in the descriptions, or it has attachments.
It would be very useful to have an ability to add entries representing only a link to a specific entry or a particular group, similar like links in a file system.
Currently the "Entry View" in the main-form already displays the group of an selected entry where it is located in as a link which is clickable. Just that's it, what I imagine.
Thank you!
I use Search to find entries that are not where I expect them. It's much simpler than remembering to create links.
cheers, Paul
Hi Paul,
yes, I use Search to find entries too. But the results are not optimal. If I search for SQL Server I get too many results.
On the other hand the goal of using groups is to organize the entries. Keepass offers this feature not consistently. This is the reason I think, this missing feature should be added (entries in more than one group). I think it will be used very often if it exists, because I have seen that I am not alone with my request.
If this feature doesnt exist, I will find the entries in the way you described. This is good, but not the best way. But if I tell my colleagues or my CIO, the accounts for a specific product are in the group "xyz", it is much easier than telling about using search strings.
Cheers, Juergen.
I recommend using tags for this. You can tag each entry by its product (by right-clicking on the entry -> 'Selected Entries' -> 'Add Tag'), and later show all entries for a product by showing all entries having this tag (click the toolbar button with the 3 keys and select the tag).
Best regards
