Global Hotkey not working

Have just downloaded and installed KeePass v1.0.  Looks a great product but I cannot get the Global Hotkey to work :( .

Have made 2 entries into the database.  If I right click the entries and "Perform Auto-Type" on the correct URLs, the usernames and passwords are entered correctly and validated successfully (default used).

If I press the Global Hotkey combination on either URL, nothing is entered into the fields.  For example the following entry is for my email login and the default username, tab, password, Enter is fine:

    Auto-Type-Window: *free.fr*

I tried changing the Global Hotkey combination, gone back to the original (Ctrl + Alt + A) but nothing seems to get the Global Hotkey working.

KeePass is open in the background, database loaded, not locked, and my cursor is in the first entry field on the url and I have read the Help file!

    What have I missed please?

      It looks right, hmm!
Try testing one on Notepad - Auto-Type-Window: *notepad*.
That should prove it works - does for me.

      cheers, Paul

Yes, Global Hotkey works fine with notepad Paul as per your example - so it is clearly working.

But if I click my Global Hotkey on any site I have entered into my KeePass database with an Auto-Type-Window statement, none of them get filled.  I have placed a very simple generic term for each Auto-Type-Window as exampled in my original post. All of them enter username and password successfully by opening the url I have pasted into the database entry and then enter the information if I do an individual "Perform Auto-Type" command but the Global Hotkey refuses to recognise any of the very simple extracts from the url.

Can you give us an eample of a site where it does not work? We may be able to spot the problem.

      cheers, Paul

Sure Paul and thanks4.  Here is my email site where I cannot get the Global Hotkey to work although the specific "Perform Auto-Type" does appear to work:
      http://imp3-q.free.fr/

The language I use on the logon is English(GB) but I do not think that should matter for you test to see if you can Global Hotkey enter characters into the fields.  The language must be set by a cookie on my pc since it always comes up English for me even though this is a French site.

The good news is I now have a site where the Global Hotkey will work, so maybe the problem is something specific to my first couple of sites.

      Thanks for your efforts.

I managed to get it to work by setting the Auto-Type-Window to "Webmail Free" - I actually set the Title of the KeePass entry to Webmail Free.

You need to set the title or Auto-Type-Window to the window title, not the URL.

      cheers, Paul

Hey, thanks Paul, it worked and also on the other 2 sites I could not originally get the Global Hotkey to work!

Looking at the documentation again, I now accept it does say the Window Title, but seeing the example entry was SourceForge.net*, I had incorrectly taken this to be part of the url, which of course it is.  Perhaps the documentation could be made a little clearer on this point for the future to avoid the confusion I had.

Appreciate your efforts and thanks for a great product.

I also misread the sample entry as "SourceForge.  Net*" instead of "Source Forge.net*".  Maybe we can get them to change the sample to something like "Yahoo!*" which is obviously not part of the URL.

Yes, that's a good idea! I'll change the sample.

        Thanks and best regards
