The portable version is exactly the same as the installed version, it just doesn't have an installer.
Download the portable version - zip file.
Unblock the zip file after you have run your virus scanner on it - right click > Properties > Unblock.
You do this for all files you download don't you?
Extract the files over the top of the existing KeePass.exe location and replace the files as requested.
And backup everything before you start. :)

If you would like to refer to this comment somewhere else in this project, copy and paste the following link:
Select File>Open from the KeePass menu, navigate to your original database, and select it. KeePass will prompt for the Master Key and open it. Thereafter, KeePass should remember the location of the database.
When you upgrade you should copy the files from the new zip file to the same directory that old KeePass version was in (overwriting existing files). Do NOT delete files from the KeePass program directory. Settings, including the location of your database are saved in the KeePass.ini file which is typically located in the KeePass program directory.
Note: You should save your database outside of the KeePass program directory, e.g. in your Documents folders with other user files.

Thank you, I am updating from version 1.31. When I do that and I ddouble-click on "KeePass.exe", it opens as an empty database.
Select File>Open from the KeePass menu, navigate to your original database, and select it. KeePass will prompt for the Master Key and open it. Thereafter, KeePass should remember the location of the database.
