The need for it on Linux is not that big, you can just mount any protocol, (ftp, sftp, webdav) and that use the built in local sync feature in Keepass.

tried putting plugins (ioprotocolext zaip) to /usr/lib/keepass2/ and /usr/lib/keepass2/Plugins but still an empty list in keepass2 --> plugins directory
should this even work?

Will the IOProtocolExt plugin work with Linux (Mono)? I have tried and receive a version mismatch error.
From the IOProtocolExt ReadMe file:
IOProtocolExt requires Windows 98 SE or higher. Unix-like systems are not supported.
So, the IOProtocolExt plugin currently doesn't support Linux. Maybe I'll add support for it in the future.

keepass 2.34, ioprotocolext 1.12 and ubuntu1604.
/usr/lib/keepass2/KeePass.exe

As mentioned in the ReadMe file of IOProtocolExt, this plugin requires Windows.
