Updating a Plugin to Keepass

    Dear Keepass,

I have just downloaded and copied the Keepass plugin to generate a passphrase. About a week ago, it used to work perfectly, giving me the message 'Compiling and loading plugins'. Now when I start Keepass, it goes straight away to the screen asking for your password. What has changed? Marek

Not enough detail posted to make a definitive diagnoses but here are some generic suggestions.

    • Go to Tools>Plugins.
      • Is the plugin listed and up-to-date? If so don't worry about it. If it isn't displayed make sure you have installed the version in the KeePass plugins folder. Also remove any old versions.
      • In the Plugin Cache section check Delete old files from cache automatically, then press Clear and restart KeePass. KeePass should recompile all the plugins if needed.
    • Plugins can come as a .dll or .plgx. The .plgx version must be compiled by KeePass, the .dll version isn't compiled by KeePass. If both are installed, Keepass will ignore the .plgx file if possible. See https://keepass.info/help/v2/plugins.html for more info.

Plug-ins are only compiled once per version of KeePass. You will not see the compiling message again unless you update the plug-in or KeePass.

    cheers, Paul

Dear All, Thanks for your posts. Just wanted to know how to update the plugin. Do I need to update it manually, somehow?

Copy the plugin files, or extract them if the plugin is distributed as a zip file, into the KeePass plugins folder located in the KeePass program directory. Make sure you don't have multiple copies of the same plugin in the Keepass program directory or plugins folder. It is easier to manage plugins if you create a sub-folder for each plugin inside the plugins folder.

    Dear All,
It is all done. Problem was with me, I had copied a new version of Keepass (2.61.1). But I had not copied over the plugin itself. Silly me. All done now,
