That directory is for programs. Data should be stored in Documents and then Documents should be backed up.

    Hi Paul,
i dont understand in what (kind of) documents i should store the NeueDatenbank.kdbx. When i do not change anything in the database the DB can be closed/saved and I have to open it again with my passphrase. But after changing anything i.e.the password ,then I cant close it/save the changes.

Documents is a location in Windows. It is where Windows puts all your docs, spreadsheets etc

You must move your database from its current location to the Documents folder on your machine. Then you will be able to save changes. Use Windows explorer to move the database.

Must the database be on my own machine?
On Windows 7 the database was on another machine on my network. I had a shortcut on my toolbar that launched KeePass (running locally) and accessed the remote database (\remotecomputer\Public). Worked great so long as the remote computer was running.
Now I have a new Windows 10 computer and the remote database sometimes opens and sometimes not. In the later case it appears to be looking locally for the database file. And even when it does find the remote database, it sometimes won't let me save.
    How can I fix this?

No. My setup is similar to yours, except that I keep the KeePass program as well as my databases on remote machines; this way I can run KeePass from any machine on my network without having to install it on every one of them.

What OS is the remote machine running? (Access problems are more likely dependent on the remote machine and its configuration.) Is the remote location an actual PC or just some NAS (network attached storage) unit? I have heard of people having trouble accessing KeePass databases from various NAS devices, but rarely when the remote unit is running some form of Windows.

The remote machine is also Windows 10, in fact an identical machine to mine.
I suspect the problem might be related to some type of network access timeout? If so, I think that can probably be adjusted. But unless I override the timout completely, the problem would still recur, just less often.

Also, if the KeePass program is on the remote machine, can multiple users access it at the same time without overwriting each other's changes?

Seems like a network issue where Windows shuts down the connection, maybe to save power. Try setting the power config for the network adapters to not shutdown.

Having KeePass.exe on a network drive will not affect your ability to save the database.
