I just encountered the very distubing fact that the keepass databases are no longer showing up in each of two separate installations. I have a backup of the database with all of my passwords. To restore the database via Import>database.kdbx, I had to create a new blank database in keepass using the same master password as the database I'm trying to import, which I have written down. However when I try importing it, I get "failed to load the specified file. The composite key is invalid". I have tried restoring the database on both machines to no avail.

Any idea what might have happened? Suggestions for restoring the database? Keepass version 2.38

OS: Win 10 pro: Last Windows update on the 1st machine was 2/13/2018. The second machine is a new build, birth date 2/12/2018 & fresh Win10 install. No updates since then.

    Thanks!

If you have a *.KDBX file, then you have a database, and have no need to "import" it. Select "Open" on the KeePass "File" menu, then "Open File...", find the *.KDBX file in the dialog that this shows, and click "Open".

A database "not showing up" probably means KeePass forgot the database location. The database will be where you left it - look in the Documents folder.
When KeePass forgets the database location it is usually after a KeePass upgrade. Is that when you noticed the problem?

"failed to load the specified file. The composite key is invalid" means you have not entered the correct master key for that database.
Check that you are trying to open the latest KDBX file.
You have the correct boxes ticked for password, key file etc.
The password you typed is correct. Click on the three dots on the right of the password box to display the password.

    cheers, Paul
