    Hi,

I suspect like others, I have some passwords which I re-use fairly often (for example, my local user account with administrator privileges that I use for operations that require higher-level permissions). Following good practice, this is a long and complicated password including special characters etc. so is not something I can easily remember.

To be able to grab that password from KeePass in order to run a process with elevated privileges, I go through the current procedure:

    1. Double left-click on system tray icon to bring KeePass in focus
    2. Move mouse cursor to folder in KeePass with that entry in, then single left-click the folder
    3. Right-click preferred entry, select Copy Password option
    4. Left-click

So, that's five mouse clicks and a fair bit of mouse-moving around.

I wondered what other people might think about adding a Favourites sub-menu to the right-click menu of the KeePass system tray icon?

I'm thinking that a (limited?) number of password entries (10? 20?) could be marked as Favourites (a simple check-box). Then when you right-click the KeePass icon in the system tray, there could be a Favourites sub-menu which when you hover over with the mouse, reveals the 20 favourite entries and can be left-clicked to immediately copy the password* to the clipboard or right-clicked to reveal the same right-click menu that happens when you currently right-click an entry (incl. options for Copy Username, Copy Password, Open URL, Perform Auto-Type etc.).

.* The default left-click option doesn't have to be Copy Password, it could also be Copy Username, Open URL, Perform Auto-Type depending on what people think is most useful. Alternatively, it could maybe be configurable in Options... to be one of the above?

Does anyone else think this would be useful? I think it would save me a lot of time accessing the handful of passwords that I use much more regularly than the vast majority stored in my database.

Another option, rather than checking the individual entries as Favourites, might be to have a special folder called Favourites and anything placed in there becomes visible on the Favourites menu. I prefer the option above just because it means that I don't have to move my Favourites out of the current folders they're already in, alongside related passwords. In this sort of system, I'd rather have some sort of link back to the original folder or, in practice, I suspect I'd duplicate the entry and use references to keep the usernames / passwords in sync.

Or do other users currently have a better system for quickly accessing their favourite entries?

Many thanks for all the work involved in maintaining KeePass. It's phenomenally useful.

How about Auto-Type via the HotKeyEnabled plug-in?

Why not use the global auto-type hot key? For dialogs with generic titles you may get the auto-type entry selection dialog, but anyway this is faster than searching an entry and using clipboard operations.

Entries already can be marked as favorites, see the FAQ:

    Best regards,

    Hi,

I originally looked at the global auto-type hot key, but I don't think it works very well in my use case. Specifically, the main complex password I want to use is a functional account which I use with many different windows and tabs (often on the command line, rarely webpages), so the requirement that the entry title is part of the windows title rapidly becomes onerous..

The HotKeyEnabled plugin is closer to my use-case - having tried it at home, I could use it assign a different hot key to each "favourite" password. However, after the one or two that I use very often, there are probably four or five that I use less often - and I simply wouldn't be able to remember the individual hotkeys specific to each entry for those less well-used options. In addition, my workplace packages KeePass up with AppLocker in Windows 10 and we are forbidden by policy to install additional plugins (don't get me started ...).

The use of the Show Entries toolbar button to list entries tagged as favourites isn't something I'd considered and seems useful. It adds an additional left-click to the routine:

Double left-click on system tray icon to bring KeePass in focus
Move mouse cursor to Show Entres toolbar button in KeePass and single left-click
Single left-click Tag: Favourite entry on pull-down menu
Right-click preferred entry, select Copy Password option
    Left-click

But at least you don't have to think about exactly which folder the entry you're looking for is in - and removing the hunting out of the folder is certainly handy.

I still think a sub-menu on the right-click menu of the KeePass tray icon, which listed all entries marked with a Favourites tag would be handy, but perhaps I'm in the minority. :)

Thanks for the food for thought, I will continue experimenting.

Add title matches for all the logins you use and select from the Global Auto-Type pop-up. (Edit the entry > Auto-Type, Add.)

    Hi, Paul.

Yes, as I mentioned - I had looked at the Global Auto-Type hotkey, but it really didn't work very well for me at all. There are a tonne of different windows, applications etc. that I potentially need to use different passwords in. It very quickly became apparent that the maintenance required would take up more time than hunting for the appropriate password in the database each time.

The HotKeyEnabled plugin is better for what I need - pasting the appropriate password, based on the hotkey I have previously selected. I don't think I'm going to be able to convince our desktop people to package up the plugin, but in the meantime I will play with using the favourites tag.

    Cheers.
