I think we should talk about this further, because I think there might be some confusion as to exactly what we are both describing. I have a feeling that we are both looking for the same functionality and are simply describing it differently. > I think moving just the current mode selection is ok as a default action.= (not > doing so could confuse newbies) What I suspect you might be thinking here is of a potentially confusing situation which would occur if you were in one selection mode, showing only components from that selection mode, but had components from another selection mode selected. For example, being in vertex mode, with only vertices showing as selected but having faces selected in face mode. (This can happen frequently in other software such as 3dsmax.) It would indeed be confusing if when moving the vertices, the faces, which were not showing as selected, were also moved. >From my understanding, theoretically, such a situation is impossible in k3d, because components are either selected and showing as selected, or not selected, and showing as not selected. Unlike 3dsmax, when changing into another component mode, the components from the previous mode are not remembered as being selected, but shown as being not selected. In k3d, if the new keep selection is active, then the old selection type (ie Faces) does in fact show as selected, even if you another component selection mode (ie Vertices). What this means is that I could select the front polygon of a cube, and then switch to vertex selection mode, and shift select a top back vertex on the cube to add it to the selection. In such a situation, both the face, and its vertices would be selected, and showing as selected. My theory was that anything being shown as selected (red in the viewport) should by default be moved by the transform tools. So, perhaps to get a better understanding of your perspective, do you agree with that statement? Perhaps to clarify so that I understand you better: Should all visibly selected components (showing as red) in the viewport be moved by the tools? My answer is yes. I am curious to see if your answer is the same or different. Sorry for the long explaination, I'm just trying to be clear about exactly what we're saying. Thanks.
