Dear Jython Users and Developers, Jython 2.7.5 is currently in beta and I'd like to remind you to test your setups with the upcoming release. The biggest breakthrough of the new release is support for Java 25. See https://github.com/jython/jython/releases/tag/v2.7.5b1 for release files and some release notes. As announced earlier, javax.servlet imports are changed to jakarta.servlet and we relocated org.python.util.PyServlet, org.python.util.PyFilter and org.python.util.PyServletInitializer to a new package org.python.servlet. Typically, frameworks scan for servlet classes automatically, so in most cases you should not even notice the change. However, if you reference these classes explicitly you need to act: If possible, adjust your code or config files to point to the new classes and update your dependencies to jakarta.servlet. If this change is not feasible for you, please try to put the original classes from org.python.util onto the classpath (copy them from Jython 2.7.4) on top of jython.jar. Thanks to the relocation, this should be possible without name conflict. Note that this most likely breaks automatic discovery of jakarta-aware frameworks (they won't tolerate javax.servlet imports anywhere in the codebase), but it should be fine for old javax.servlet-based legacy setups. It would be nice if you could report success or issues of this approach. Another notable change is a more consistent matching strategy for Java methods with var args. In Jython 2.7.5, the new behavior is strictly opt-in by setting python.options.reflectedArgsLegacyMode=false in the registry or on the command line (the default for now is true). However, we would like to make the new strategy the default in future releases, so please test your setup with the new strategy during the 2.7.5 release cycle. Ideally, adjust your usage or edge cases to the new behavior during 2.7.5 to get future-proof. For more details and background, see https://github.com/jython/jython/pull/425 and links from there. Successful testing! Stefan |
