My name is Tim Freund, and I'm a python/java developer -- I've been lurking on the list for about the last month. I joined the mailing list after I learned about the new javax.script package that is in Java 1.6. I have started working on something that will connect a javax.script.ScriptEngine to any number of input/output streams (currently telnet and jabber, more to come) to provide a REPL for running Java applications -- useful for learning, debugging, and administration. Of course, I'd like Jython supported in addition to the default JavaScript. I have been writing python and java for years now, but I'm new to the Jython code -- if there are any open tickets that would be especially suitable for a newbie, let me know and I'll take a crack at them.
