Hi all. I'm a complete ignoramous regarding Java (having started using Python prior to attempting to learn Java), so please bear with me. At work I have a few Python scripts that I routinely run on Linux and Windows machines. My employer is looking at obtaining some Symbian OS 7.0s (Series 80) devices as they become available (Nokia 9500), and I would really like to run these scripts on these devices. Since Python is not natively available on Series 80 platforms (Nokia's Amaretto is currently only targetting Series 60 afaik), I am trying to investigate the possibility of using Jython. Jython.org lists a fully 1.1 or 1.2 compliant JVM as a requirement for running Jython. Nokia's website states that the 9500 will include Java MIDP 2.0. I've gone through Sun's site but i cannot figure how to translate from MIDP2.0 to x.x compliant JVM. I fear that MIDP probably contains some subset of functionality of the JVM and will not be sufficient to run Jython. I would be gratefuly if someone could share some light on this for me. Even if MIDP 2.0 is not fully 1.1/2 JVM compliant, is it possible to still use Jython (but just a smaller subset of the standard modules)? Thanks in advance. |
